Removing pops from a vinyl record rip is tedious as hell. I was trying to come up with a better (or automated) way to identify where pops are without listening to the entire thing in real time, and I thought of using a derivative of the signal (the idea being that pops should show as abrupt changes).

But then I just stumbled upon a simple solution: looking at the spectrogram!

Pops show as ghostly bars in the background of the signal.

@brunoph Does this work better than Audacity's Click Removal tool? (I used to use Gramofile, but the former seems just as good.)

Hi folks, I need with a possible infection in on . After accidentally visiting a spammy website I am getting suspicious and short-lived windows with a grey border in the corner of the screen. Their text seems to always starts with (A). The first one was ostensibly about Norton, this one McAfee. Tough to verify any fix since they only appear once in a while; I did get a photo of one:

Please advise me!

For A Project™, I need to learn about the historical origins of #bitmap #fonts. Highly doubt these were first created on computers; where in the world have rectangular #tiles or #bricks carried a textual message? (The tiled signs in the #NYC subway are #mosaics, not based on a grid.) Where did bitmap fonts really start?

I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)

People in the U.S. complain about disruptive #protests, but the country has systematically closed down venues for #dissent. Want to vote for a non-genocidal President? Sorry, two-party system. Want to pass progressive legislation? Sorry, filibuster. Want to support the #Palestinians? Sorry, our ally is #Israel. Want your #university to divest from armaments? Sorry, fiduciary duty. Want to write some graffiti? Sorry, #vandalism. So disruption may be all we have left, short of #violence.

#Bonjour! I need the help of someone who is located in #Paris, to go into the Cimetière Montmarte and take a couple of photos for me.

The De la Cruz family tombstone is in division 21, ligne 2/65, on the Avenue Cordier. I'm happy to offer 20 EUR to anyone who can get me some good snapshots of it.

For all of you not in Paris, please boost so that this request reaches #France!

how do we make progress on transit, pedestrian safety, and bikes under a bad mayor?

every candidate—Breed, Farrell, Peskin, Safai, Lurie—is bad on this issue. we ain't getting a Hidalgo or Wu. there will be no bike mayor. it's just us.

so how are we going to fight an apathetic-to-hostile, powerful executive for the next four years and win?

Been talking to a fair few of my ethics class students (a vocational program to become a UX Designer), and essentially all of them express doubt that it will be possible to work in an ethically-aligned way once they find employment.

To be clear: they want to, but they just don’t think it will be possible.

How the hell did we end up here, that the expected default is that companies will necessarily harm the wellbeing of their stakeholders, and that these same companies (read: individuals in upper management positions) won’t care to do better when a more compassionate path is made available to them…

aarbrk,
@aarbrk@mstdn.mx avatar
