Everyone I have talked to today is horrified that the CDC might only recommend the next COVID-19 booster for elderly and immunocompromised people, after we have been told for years to expect it to become like the seasonal flu shot, while we are waiting for better boosters, while cases are spiking and the long COVID research is damning. Dudes I am so indescribably happy that there will be another Jin Yong adaptation. If I am not mistaken, a series of dramas will be made based on Jin Yong's stories. The trailer looks magnificent and really reminds me of the wuxia dramas I used to watch. Oh please let this be good 🙏

Have you enjoyed some Chinese propaganda lately? I did.

I watched a Chinese legal drama called Draw the Line and I'd like to reassure you that I'm still not a member of the Communist Party of China.

Usually, these issues are for subscribers to my blog (it's a free subscription), but I'm setting it free for Mastadon folks for a week.

@liztai 🤝 from me, halfway through War of Faith right now, a few days behind the episodes airing on CCTV...8 I think, and thinking about what messages we're meant to get from it and what messages I do actually get. (And avoiding Weibo because I don't wanna get spoiled for tonight's latest twists.)

I find I don't want to watch anyone's modern day military/police shows right now, but I don't want to watch stuff that looks like my own suburban US white person life, either.

I find it absolutely wild that film studios like Heng Dian exist - there are literal replicas of historical buildings such as the Forbidden City, the Bund and Tang Dynasty towns.

That said, I probably wouldn't want to visit it lest I ruin the fantasy I have when watching

@liztai at this point I recognize so many locations there that I am ready to have that illusion shattered the rest of the way. The one long alley with the tall stone walls around it! The really pretty somewhat Japanese styled house set into the hillside with the beautiful deck on the front! The city or village street that is terraced stairs and flat spaces on a slope with room for vendor stalls.

At this point I have a southern China itinerary and a northern China itinerary because I've got to split it up somehow and I particularly want to take trains between some cities. I wish I could go with our friend Forest since we would spend so much time in Hangzhou and Luoyang, because we are nerds.

Yesterday, randomly came across a where someone needed a super rare blood type. Super tickled that they had to fly over the blood from to save that person.

Eh dei, as far as I know there is only a number of blood types and unless we have mutant nasi lemak blood pretty sure you can find that rare blood type from among the billions of people in 😂

Malaysians are so mysterious people think we have magic blood lol.

I have a scientist acquaintance who has been attempting to publish philosophical mathematical stuff about a different kind of unification of theory for mathematics and physics. I both don't comprehend it well enough to critique thoroughly, and can hear the tone of eccentricity and obsessiveness that give me pause.

I'm reading The Three-Body Problem and I caught myself wondering if he's been targeted by a sophon.

The work is theoretical, mind you. But his spouse is an LHC physicist....

Unhappy with the harm and disruption self-driving cars are causing in San Francisco and other places? You can disable one by gently placing a traffic cone on the hood. Here is a video with examples. @JillsJoy @AnnaAnthro there's a battle later in the season, EP 7 I think, where LAY is really going all out krumping, and there's this little cluster of dancers, Yibo and teammates, studying his every move and kind of echoing some of his movements and it's so cute watching them all soaking it up. You can see the gears turning in their heads as they study him, they're competing against him but appreciating him so much.

    I was honest today with my PCP that I'm still unable to work and want a number of mental health related referrals. She said she supports and will refer me to whomever I pick for all of them based on insurance and people taking new clients.

    I have two siblings with ADHD. I have sensory sensitivities. My exec function is shot. I have so many Autistic and ADHD and AuDHD friends I admire and yet it was STILL hard to admit I want neuropsych evaluation.

    She pointed out that what I am going through could be any combination of trauma, attention, Autism, other sensory conditions, and also that perimenopause could be contributing. Her encouragement really helped, and I felt physically lighter for a while after the appointment.

    I could visualize a way through whatever this is, somewhat better.

    Doesn't make the grief and anger about the trauma go away but it does lighten it.

    Y'all, can you spread this far and wide and help my bud out? E has been so supportive to me as I healed from my trauma, and they need help right now with a string of financial bad luck. They're a disabled transgender person in Detroit, and care for their elderly Grama, and had a recent fender-bender that has made their car undrivable. It's devastating to a family who lives paycheck to paycheck

    I think it's funny and also sort of cool that my brain is spitting out poems every so often, because I'm not really thinking of it as writing and not really focusing on whether or not I have been writing, and yet clearly I am writing.

    It's an interesting way in which I'm being creative, and doing things that will develop skill, without looking directly at it As A Practice and having either demand refusal or perfectionism about it.
