The Tories in Scotland have very little support & need the list system to get MSP's. The Tories in the UK Parliament have destroyed the UK with their incompetence & corruption. And this Tory thinks he has an entitlement to talk about failing a country. Pot, kettle, black. The SNP are not perfect, no Party ever is, but look at the good things they have done in Scotland. There are so many things that are much worse, or you have to pay for in Eng. I have lived in both places & Scotland is the best!

A friend is interviewing for some iOS developer positions and I'm not too helpful in knowing resources nowadays, anyone have some suggestions I can forward?
@christianselig When our company interviews for various tech roles we send them a tech test to complete, plus some coding-related questions. When we check their responses we search the internet for things like "how to pass a Swift interview", and inevitably catch people who think they can blag their way through by almost exactly copying a suggested response.
Whilst you can't do this for everything, relying on a suggested website for your questions will inevitably yield similar results. YMMV.
So thrilled that “Here Lies Love” is on Broadway now and is thrilling audiences and critics alike. Brad and I saw it when it was at the Public Theatre, and it was fantastic! Be sure to catch it if you are in New York. We’ll be there later this winter and plan to see it again! Get your tickets here: https://herelieslovebroadway.com/tickets/
@christianselig Ugh, I'm so annoyed, but happy for you. I must have some massive fundamental misunderstanding of widgets - coupled with terrible WWDC videos that never explain anything - 'cos mine rarely change to what I've picked. They just sit there with the default data until I reboot the phone 😡 And don't get me started on the Smart Stack.
Maybe I should just give up developing for Apple's operating systems.
@christianselig Thanks for the offer of help. It's my own stuff. My widgets show an 'event', a moment in time, so there's a countdown/up timer and various text. You add your widget, and it uses the default data. Then you edit to pick a different event. Most of the time it doesn't refresh and show the new data. I doubt there's anything I can do to fix that.
When picking Watch complications they show default data for all events, but work properly when on a face - same code base. Can't fix it 🥺
@christianselig It doesn't help in a simpler project; I've tried. The trouble I - and others have - is that Apple release this stuff and provide no useful information on how to implement it.
Smart Stack code-alongs in WWDC23 are useless. They try to explain it with Backyard Birds, but skip all the important bits and don't explain anything. "This was all stubbed out when we started". Was it? How? What did you add? Where?
Questions on the Developer Forums go unanswered for years. Dispiriting.
@christianselig I have widgets working, and when a new bit of info in the timeline needs to be displayed, it is displayed. My problem is that they just fail to update to the event selected when you add them to the screen - plus the Watch complication picking thing.
@christianselig That's part of the issue. The Home Screen widgets on iOS don't update to the right event when you edit and pick one. The Watch complications do, just not in the picking screens, etc.
You seem to have this working immediately, What magic sauce are you using to do it? 'Cos when I edit and pick a new event I just get the wrong result.
@christianselig Hi, me again. I'm getting nowhere with this. Do you have any insights? It might be a really obvious thing I'm doing wrong, but I really need some help here. Thanks.
@christianselig Initially, it appears that my timeline is being populated up to the year 2050 (!!!), which is strange because all I'm doing is crafting entries for the next week, one hour apart. I guess with so many entries it kinda kills it. Taking a deeper dive...
In the new Pixel Pals update, to get PixelQuest working as a full iOS 17 home screen game, I had to code in actual procedural chunk loading for the map because loading the full massive map was crashing 💀 Plus there's full boundary detection haha
In a sane country, we wouldn’t allow AR-15s in the hands of anyone, let alone a white supremacist with a history of mental issues. And we wouldn’t have to lock down whole school campuses and have students crawl out of windows to save themselves from an active shooter. Other countries have passed laws to prevent this madness. Yet, we allow it regularly to happen.
@georgetakei USA’s political system is opposites. One party opposes gun control & hates abortion, the other wants to control gun access to save lives, and provide abortions to those needing them. (I won’t go into how the Republicans' god is the biggest abortionist of all time. See Christopher Hitchens for that.)
One party wants people to be safe; the other stokes up culture wars, decries 'woke nonsense’, and tells lies to the idiotic, uneducated ding-a-lings who vote for them.
For as long as I can remember, politicians have been promising to involve the government in negotiating down the cost of prescription drugs. Now, the Biden Administration has finally achieved that goal. Medicare has announced it will negotiate prices on 10 popular prescription drugs, making them more affordable. Joe Biden is getting the job done. And we, the voters, should support him to finish the job.
@georgetakei The UK's National Health Service (NHS) is free at the point of use. You pay taxes for it, but for drugs you need to pay (unless you're exempt). I'm on some stomach meds at the moment and I pay £9.65 per medication, and that's it. There's no complicated insurances that charge loads every month. It works. It's socialised healthcare, but "socialised" isn't a dirty word. No one in the UK goes bankrupt for healthcare. I applaud these moves by Biden, but there are also better options.
Toot Tech Support: I have a 2015 MacBook Pro that I use from time to time, but sometimes I’ll boot it up and the menu bar is completely gone, no windows can have focus, I can only right click, and the keyboard makes the error beeps whenever I type. Anyone know what this could be before I wipe it completely? I tried clearing PRAM/NVRAM
With SwiftUI and the displaying auto-updating dates through the Text view, is there a way to format how the time is displayed? For instance if I wanted to format “10:30 AM” as "10:30" or "ten thirty am", etc.?
@christianselig I requested this from Apple two years ago. It still hasn't been done, so I've had to do some bonkers code to get my widgets to update, and they always get out of sync.
@chrismessina How many posts will you see before a completely irrelevant advert of obvious scam advert is shown? On Instagram it's a scam every three posts.
@chrismessina Yeah, but Instagram is different to Mastodon, Twitter et al. I just don't see the point in Meta deploying this new Mastodon-like thing. What do they gain? Why would people use it instead of the free stuff that doesn't include ads? Are people just stupid?
