Portrait of one of my regular Pied Currawong visitors.
This is the older one, and has learnt to call for sultanas in the morning, even said "thankyou" once.

Leaving work this evening, I found another family of ducklings. Nine in this brood and they were motoring along at quite a pace heading for the new wetlands where the main lake used to be at UQ.

Too fast to get some nice duckling portraits, so these are all "run and gun" as they whizzed past.

Nine ducklings with the two parent ducks in the late afternoon sunlight walking rapidly left to right. The ducklings are all brown with white patches and little dark brown masks.
Seven of the ducklings racing along towards the right of frame and partially towards the camera. The parents walk with them, but I couldn't get them all in so their heads aren't in the shot.

My contribution to #bleptember is this Lace Monitor I just spotted outside.

A Laughing Kookaburra outside just now. It has an out of place flight feather (presumably moulting it).

time.

But also a success. I had heard rumours that there was at least one platypus in our local creek and this evening, armed with the wrong lens for the conditions, I confirmed it.

Alas, 1/50th sec @ ISO 12,800 is too slow for a speedy platypus.

Spot the female Scarlet Honeyeater.

A little action from this morning. This patch of interesting moss was growing on the side of a tree some 2m from the ground.

Who's this in the backyard eating our lawn?

Why it's our little Swamp Wallaby.

She's here most afternoons around dusk now. Clearly needing to really eat to help feed the joey.

This weekend is The Great Glossy Count - a bird count event specifically for the Glossy Black Cockatoo.

https://birdlife.org.au/events/the-great-glossy-count/

If you're on the east coast of Australia from about the Sunshine Coast to Victoria, you should consider registering and going out to look for these threatened birds.

Our little is back in our backyard this evening, and it looks like it might be a female with joey, given the bulging pouch. Can't tell for certain, but it appears that way.

A small Swamp Wallaby grazing on all fours. She had her nose to the ground seeking out tasty weeds.

david,

For scale and so you can see how close she is, this iPhone shot was taken from the kitchen looking out the back door. Look carefully between the veranda railings and there she is.

A White-browed Scrubwren looking for snacks in some dead leaves. This shot is uncropped as it was that close.

And a bonus edition of the male Variegated Fairywren. Its bright blue head really stands out against the leaf litter and twigs.

White-browed Scrubwren on a thick branch, investigating some dried up leaves in the hope of finding a snack.

We had our semi-regular Wallaby visitor in the backyard again this evening. It was /just/ light enough to get some shots (well two frames from 10 were usable - 1/40th sec, iso3200, ƒ/1.8 @ 200mm)

A cropped in shot of the Swamp Wallaby bent over munching on some grass. It is still looking at the camera and is alert. Behind it, and not facing the wallaby, is my wildlife camera.

david,
david,

And finally, a surprise fly-over by a Peregrine Falcon. I got one shot only, and this is a bit of a heavy crop, but enough of the colouring came through to confirm the ID.
