@Geri I don't know what that's a response to, but it looks a bit patronising to me. Oh, and the classical music posts get next to zero attention on here. The one reason I regret leaving Twitter. But I'm not going on to any other social media.

@Geri OK, accepted, thanks. I like the discussions I have on here, having accepted that classical music will never be part of them. I save that for my blog (which runs the gamut) and, obviously, for the Zoom courses, Arts Desk and other freelance work. I do want to learn other points of view, though. And I only engage with folk with whom there's plenty of political and ethical overlap.

@Geri Sibelius is some kind of essence for me. The Karelia Suite is good light music - he hardly ever wrote a dud movement - but the symphonies and tone-poems are something else. And universal, too, though Germans still seem to have trouble with their unorthodox forms.

@ChrisMayLA6 @bookstodon Agreed. One of the few things that worries me about death is the books I've long wanted to read and never got round to. Every time I encounter a masterpiece or a writer new to me who bowls me over - John McGahern being the latest - I think how lucky I am to have lived long enough to read them.

@ChrisMayLA6 @bookstodon On a related note, I read a couple of poems to my 93 year old mother each time I visit. She never was a reader, but startles me by quoting whole quatrains from her past. And yesterday's poems, one an absolute beauty by Louis MacNeice, were new to me, and she reacted vividly to them.

@Boerps @classicalmusic Can't temember if I have it on DVD - not home at the moment - but the YouTube film isn't so bad that you'd want to miss a film of an historic occasion. The CD is fine soundwise.
