Every time I install Windows 11 at work, I feel like I've sold off a little more of my soul.
This operating system is one of the biggest privacy disasters to ever be forced upon the world of personal computing.
Seriously, I know it's intimidating, I know computers are complicated, but you need to ditch Microsoft, and Google. They are not your friends. They are using and exploiting our entire population.
@deadtom There was a study on the best way to dry your hands that was done years ago. They found that if, after you've washed your hands, you shake them 12 times, and then fold a paper towel in half, that it will dry your hands and use less waste.
As opposed to air dryers which are cesspools of bacteria.
The house next to ours is going up for sale. The guy that currently lives there has been one of those nightmare neighbors you used to see in early-90s comedies.
We've decided on a tactic for weeding out sketchy looking potential buyers.
When they're showing the house, I'll just walk out on the front porch naked, and bring in a really heavy package. Might even wave to them.
A bit of fun news today, I ordered a new camera last night. It's an old model, a Nikon D7500, but it is brand new, and I feel like I got a pretty good deal on it.
My first DSLR was a D50. I now carry two D3100 SLRs with me when I'm out shooting. This new camera will be the first one I've owned that wasn't near the bottom of Nikon's more economical line of SLRs.
I will probably never own the latest, greatest thing, so I get excited when I can splurge a little.
@deadtom I used the 3100 for years and then got my dad's D7500 when he passed away a few years ago. It is a little heavier, but otherwise an upgrade in every way. I have since moved to a Z5, which I love, but the D7500 is still great.
One thing I didn't know for years until I started looking at full-frame lenses for the Z: you can use "screw drive" AF/AF-D autofocus lenses on the D7500. There are some great, cheap, used lenses that I wish I had been using, like the AF 20mm f/2.8.
@richard_merren@deadtom Yes! Getting a camera that still has the AF motor in it is a great way to maximize the lenses you can choose from in the Nikon F Mount. So many great deals out there on the ‘older’ AF-D lenses.
This overwhelming fear of impending doom, with no cause what-so-ever. The feeling that I'm in trouble for something, with someone, but of course I can't nail down what that is, or who that might be, because there is nothing.
Just sitting here with my stomach on its own, personal roller-coaster ride, trying to breathe my way through it and continue on with my day.
@Mrfunkedude I'm not on any meds, but will be asking my therapist about that, this week.
Up until the last year, I've always been able to manage it on my own, without it getting in the way of my day-to-day activities. It is beginning to become a more significant problem, though.
@deadtom I learned to deal with it through meditation and mindfulness training. Basically every day I would imagine that my anxiety was a cloud, and that it would come to sit in a room with me. It taught me to look at it more objectively and be able to mitigate it's effects on me.
This is the conflict I'm dealing with right now. When I hear these to guys running games, and talking about the game, you can feel the passion they have for it. They just want to make the game as good as it can be, because they love it.
The gap between people like this, and the suit wearing fucks that have never played, and only want to monetize every ounce of the game, with no regard for its legacy, or its players... that is where I'm lost right now.
@deadtom I've had the opportunity to talk about play experiences with both at tiny conventions. It's a joy to just chat with them. 10/10 would recommend.
Microsoft is forcing everyone onto their cloud services. By the end of 2025, even their desktop OS will be heavily dependent on the cloud.
I know, "the cloud is where everything is headed". Incorrect. It's where the big corporations want everything to go, so they can have more control over it. You own nothing, and their TOS allows them to cut you off at any time.
It doesn't have to be that way, and if you're running a business that depends on cloud services, you're taking an enormous risk.
@deadtom I noticed this when my 5 year old laptop wanted me to pay to use Word and Excel. NO thank you. Promptly uninstalled both and started just using LibreOffice again, not sure why I ever stopped. Not an option for some people at work, but still. It's ridiculous what Microsoft is doing. I get it, but it's still ridiculous.
@Mrfunkedude Hmmm... I wonder if I wasn't paying attention and opted into some new "experience".
The description and comments have been moved over to the right side. They did it a while ago, and I've been trying to get used to it. I guess I'm just too old and curmudgeonly.
I'm fully aware of the pretentiousness of this attitude, but I can't help it.
I have a difficult time taking you and your mullet seriously. Especially if you have a mustache (and or mutton chops), which almost inevitably does not work on your face. Add to that a big trucker hat, and I won't be able to look you in the face without wondering how many broken down vehicles you have parked in front of your RV, which hasn't moved in twelve years.
