@post@freemo@feld your point is flawed for many reasons:
first the summary of evidence of non homogeneous and low quality studies doesn't give you an increased quality of evidence, this is the foundation of MAs and they knew, so they state quite clearly what we can say and what we can not with those results
second, It seems that you miss the idea behind hypothesis testing and you are doing one of the biggest mistake in biostat: absence of proofs is not a proof itself
@Hoss@feld and the best part is, the more theyfuckwoth the fiat money supply, the more your investment becomes worth in units of fiat currency, which theyll not stop messing with till it collapses, and if that happens well,ur the only one wofh something thats valuable lol. Win no matterwhat
>> bought a Chevy Tahoe for $84,000 at a 10% interest rate with payments of $1400/mo, still owes $70k+
>> bought a truck for nearly the same price, payments of $1600/mo, still owes like $80k
>>> reveals she doesn't know why, she likes her Audi better
holy fuck who are these people? They're funneling ALL their money into cars. No appreciating assets. No savings. They're living paycheck to paycheck, hand to mouth just to fucking have some cars to impress their friends?
And she doesn't understand principal payments vs interest payments, or how compounding interest works, etc
@thatguyoverthere@BowsacNoodle@kroner@Hoss also my grandma used to tell me stories of how it was normal for pregnant women to be working in the fields, squat, push out a baby, wrap it in extra linen like a sling and tie it to your body, and keep working.
I don't know how that's really possible to do without some level of malnutrition creating a low birth weight or how you just overcome the intensity of childbirth like that, but they did.
They also buried the baby in the woods if they were too poor to care for it.
Old people have good stories of shit they experienced day to day before "modernization" and "globalization", that's for sure.
edit: I'm aware I've said "also my grandma" twice in this thread and sound like a broken clock
✅ is a rape victim and has a legitimate concern about safety and making ♀-only spaces illegal which is not irrational
✅ is not wrong about calling out trans people who commit murders and saying they shouldn't count towards "women crime stats" when they're clearly unhinged people (yeah there's a few crazy people out there, but that doesn't mean all trans people are crazy)
✅ does not actually wish harm towards trans people; it would be clear if you read her little manifesto thing she published instead of burying your head in the sand saying "don't listen to her, she'll brainwash you into being anti-trans with logic!" (editor's note: she won't make you anti-trans)
✅ does not wish to stop people from transitioning, but asks for common sense approach like "getting a proper evaluation first before taking medical-intervention steps on young people"
✅ is constantly misquoted or taken out of context, and if you actually read what she said and not misconstrue it, it's pretty benign
❌ not afraid of dunking on people who talk too much shit @ her, which makes people FURIOUS especially because she's rich. This is the real kicker. If she was a pushover, people would stop being so afraid of her.
She's also not right about everything and says some pretty bizarre stuff about other topics but that's perfectly OK because she's a human being. And no she doesn't get a free pass. She can be right about some things and wrong about others AT THE SAME TIME.
@why@feld in Japanese schools, when an answer in a student's book is correct, sensei will circle it ⭕ and not use a "tick" ✔️like a UK or US teacher might.
> Legally it doesn’t make sense to allow miscegenation but disallow cousin incest, as the former causes significantly more health problems for the child than the latter
Which specific health issues are caused by mixed race human babies?
From personal experience (albeit from 1980’s), it’s quite easy to distinguish:
a protest that lasts months, with specific, reasonable political postulates, continued regardless of arrests and police violence is unlikely to be driven by an external force or disinformation - think https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euromaidan
@delta@meso@sun I'm cackling to myself at the idea of using NNTP for large file attachments, actually... it could work...
imagine if establishing a chat also established a private obfuscated newsgroup name between the parties and the encrypted payloads were pushed there. You'd have to be able to integrate somehow so the NNTP servers could be told which groups to subscribe to and which servers to peer with, but it would be possible to limit the scope so only the involved parties' groups get downloaded by the partipants' servers.
This basically provides an API to jails, so I wonder how hard it would be to make it work with terraform. Could get a lot of renewed jail interest with that
@antranigv@feld this actually dredges up memories of a project I started called Hobo. I was building a manager for dev/test environments meant to replace Vagrant - basically one CLI tool that let you manage projects across your system. It used a light file db (bbolt) to store environments and you could interact with them anywhere (like standup another project to reference it from your current project without moving around)
I bet you I could reuse large portions of that abandoned project
@antranigv@feld I had written this entire profile system that would manage provider/provisioner (like aws+ansible for testing etc) that could probably be pretty easily adapted/rewritten for the concept of remotes + jails
> Florida governor vows to outlaw CBDC if the US authorizes one
Is that even possible? States can't create their own currencies so if the Federal government decided to completely eliminate cash Florida citizens would have very limited access to their dollars.
@feld You know thinking about this? I know of gigantic transfers including 2.7 million. Didn’t even fucking file taxes. My now deceased boss had not filed since 84 no joke. Took me 8 years to sort the basis. At the end?
No tax. That’s right, from 2001 to 2015 I’ve paid zero tax as adult and the irs validated that. Nor did anyone else pay taxes.
So like? Uhh. lol
Not that I’m saying that’s good by any means, once I found the tax problem I got on it. I had no idea, when you get promoted and get access to tax data. That’s what happened. The circumstances that lead to no tax? Double taxation laws very complicated.
I’ll say this if you’re gonna fuck up? Be damn sure you make your money in a country with higher tax rate than USA. Then they can’t backdate that and fine you. There was no tax due.
It was a shitshow. But yeah 1984 to 2011 taxes incorrectly filed. IRS didn’t notice. They are well good at their jobs.
This is great, we've now created a culture where people think they can recognize AI generated text and are accusing anyone and everyone. It's a total leopard-ate-my-face situation.
The overreaction created mass panic and outrage and now we get to suffer through a stage of false accusations that will do nothing to impress skeptics
@mitchconner@PapaPole@jeffcliff@sun my personal opinion on the whole "emotional cheating" concept is that it's a fabricated guilt trip to make sure men never have any female friends, especially those who are single
so you're not allowed to ever talk to another female or get their perspective or share anything deemed personal or intimate with them or else it's "cheating"?
(and I don't think signing up for dating/hookup/cheating sites is "emotional cheating", it's just regular Intent To Cheat. Whether or not they're successful at cheating is a different discussion.)
edit: "why can't men and women be friends?" -- because of this stigma, really
