So tired of fake car safety activists screaming about how touch screens are inherently dangerous when they don't spend any time experiencing what it's like to switch between car manufacturers because they live in a world where they e.g., only buy Fords so nothing ever changes in their view and everything is familiar

I'm on a vacation and my mother in law who has been driving for 40 years can't figure out how to get her Nissan into Reverse because they made the shifter bizarrely complicated for no good reason at all

I'm driving this piece of shit to pick up some necessities and nearly getting killed because there's a million buttons and lights everywhere unlabeled, all the steering wheel controls -- of which there are far too many to be safe -- are in a completely different layout than every other car I've driven.

This shit complete lunacy. The problem isn't touch screens, it's familiarity. If you want cars to be safe you need to mandate a standard layout of all buttons and controls in every car. Zero deviation. Every car should be identical.

Give me back my Tesla, a car that's actually safe to drive and has as minimal of an interior as possible

I think it might be a good time to revisit Delta Chat, an E2EE chat system that actually piggybacks over email. Setup an email server somewhere, give accounts to trusted parties, everyone's messages are routed through one known trusted system

You can reuse existing email accounts and it does work for every email provider, but for ultimate privacy it would probably be wise to use an email server that does nothing else

I'm thinking about setting up a rule that triggers some actions when a given device is removed. For that I'd like a minimal device/token, think "only vendorid and productid", no actual functionality (which could fail and cause issues, etc.). Does anyone have a source for something like that? It's obviously ridiculously niche and not at all cost-effective to manufacture...

✅ is not wrong about calling out trans people who commit murders and saying they shouldn't count towards "women crime stats" when they're clearly unhinged people (yeah there's a few crazy people out there, but that doesn't mean all trans people are crazy)

✅ does not actually wish harm towards trans people; it would be clear if you read her little manifesto thing she published instead of burying your head in the sand saying "don't listen to her, she'll brainwash you into being anti-trans with logic!" (editor's note: she won't make you anti-trans)

✅ does not wish to stop people from transitioning, but asks for common sense approach like "getting a proper evaluation first before taking medical-intervention steps on young people"

✅ is constantly misquoted or taken out of context, and if you actually read what she said and not misconstrue it, it's pretty benign

❌ not afraid of dunking on people who talk too much shit @ her, which makes people FURIOUS especially because she's rich. This is the real kicker. If she was a pushover, people would stop being so afraid of her.

She's also not right about everything and says some pretty bizarre stuff about other topics but that's perfectly OK because she's a human being. And no she doesn't get a free pass. She can be right about some things and wrong about others AT THE SAME TIME.
