I've been preparing for the #Apocalypse since 1994 when the local fire chief said "We won't be coming to help you". The #PNW is overdue for The Big One™.

I've been expecting the #plague. What I did not expect was for public #health organizations (I'm looking at you CDC) to throw their hands up and give up on the public. I didn't expect the public to go so willingly either.

It shouldn't be this hard to keep up on the data just to stay alive. I'm weary but I won't stop.

Everybody dies.

Not everybody becomes chronically ill from a disabling pathogen.

Live till you die is the goal, not suffer till you die.

You may not care if kills you, but will you care if you are so ill from , making food to survive takes every ounce of your energy for that day? Will you care then?

Because that's what way too many people are living right now.

Do you have somebody lined up who will take care of you indefinitely?

Clarification from the USDA re:

"...interstate movement for a lactating dairy cow from a sale barn directly to a slaughter facility requires only a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) stating that the animal is clinically healthy; no testing is necessary."

I'll repeat that in case you missed it.

NO TESTING IS NECESSARY for dairy cows being sent to slaughter.

I suspect "clinically healthy" is a bit misleading in a similar way that "mild " is

I don't like words like "mostly" or "should", which is what we're seeing a lot of around this topic. I want data.

This comment on one of my other toots indicates otherwise. https://mastodon.social/@carstenfranke/112437084870438489

As far as pet food goes, there has been ZERO warnings to consumers of raw pet food with regards to H5N1 so if that's where it's going, this needs to be addressed in a big way.

Friend: "You're the only one of my friends who hasn't gotten on a plane and traveled"

The silent part I didn't say: (so I'm the smartest friend you have...)

Also unspoken ( MAYBE BECAUSE I HAVE AND CAN'T ALWAYS BREATHE EASILY AND I CAN'T STEP OUTSIDE FOR A BREAK FROM MY MASK IF I'M ON A PLANE!)

Them: "We're getting on a cruise"

Me not silent: "Can't believe you're getting on a petri dish"

Them: "We're fine. Relax"

Relax?

Me, broken the rest of the day.

Huh. This is rather refreshing.

"We say we don’t believe that there are cases of H5 novel influenza circulating because we haven’t seen any evidence that would be suggestive of that. But until and unless we enhance our subtyping...

👉 we are basing that conclusion on negative implication rather than on affirmative data,” Shah said in the interview.

Has it been proven that one cannot get infected with from non raw milk?

Because last I heard there have been no studies done.

Or am I wrong?

Because...

Because on Apr 12, just 10 days after CDC published "Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Virus in Animals: Interim Recommendations for Prevention, Monitoring, and Public Health Investigations" that said:

"...should avoid unprotected direct physical contact or close exposure w/sick or dead birds or other animals, carcasses, feces,

milk

or litter from sick birds or other animals potentially infected or confirmed to be infected w/ HPAI A() virus."

The FDA seemed uncertain on Apr 25, a full 13 days AFTER "(raw)" was added to the CDC 's guidance:

"Additional testing is required to determine whether intact pathogen is still present and if it remains infectious"

Ya think??

Now, whether or not it has since been proven, the fact remains, they didn't yet know for sure and then played it down in the guidelines.

I find them all less than trustworthy. YMMV

@grumpybozo

How this whole "we've essentially done studies since we guinea pigged the country letting them beta test {foo} on the population" ( WITHOUT all the records and testing and everything involved in a proper study) is an ok metric is beyond me.

People who volunteer for studies sign paperwork and go into it WILLINGLY.

But what you said is a generalization, & even the FDA says more testing is needed. *See other comments on this thread

Interesting case!

Vincent Gaines, worked at a nursing home in CO & died of #Covid Jun '20.

There was "no evidence Gaines came into contact w/ anyone w/Covid."

But 40 people were pos(+) & an #Outbreak was registered.

"Would you have had to, like — genetic sequencing of the strain of COVID he died from?" asked Judge Matthew D. Grove. "What would have been sufficient in your view to show the decedent got the disease at work?"

Oh I like this judge!

Widow won the case.

My new post on LinkedIn about a court case. An appellate court in Colorado found that COVID can be occupational disease that is compensable under the state's Workers Comp laws. The employer and its insurance company appealed the judgement and lost. This is a reminder that employers may urge you to take risks, but they may not stand behind you if you get ill. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/augieray_covid-19-can-be-occupational-disease-colorado-activity-7194390536126885890-4VF9?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

Oh my.

I just got off the phone with a pharmacist.

Trying to shake my brain back into line because holy cow.

Family member is on a lot of meds. Now has gout & kidney stones.

We all know doctors only have a passing knowledge of meds & how they work. Pharmacists are the experts.

So I call. Wait 20 minutes to get a person.

OH! The on-hold music is interspersed with a message telling me that they are actively working on their hold times and hey if I want to apply for a job, PLEASE DO!

How the fuck are parents reconciling the frequent childhood illnesses that seem to be ripping through all my friends' households? This is not normal. We were never this sickly when I was growing up-- and I was one of the "sickly" ones (I had a bad dust allergy). I don't even have kids and I see it 😒

Denial can be a powerful agent, so I'm assuming that's how it's being dealt with until it can no longer be dismissed at scale. This is all so messed up.

justyourluck,
@justyourluck@masto.ai avatar

@RebelGeek99
But what's going to be that thing point. It sure as heck isn't going to be a 17 year old "innocent" (ie not one of them gays) kid dying from it, since we've already killed off so many kids and disabled so so so many other kids and continue to. It will have to be when the economy finally grinds to a halt because we've run out of enough workers who can do their job.

Huh. I don't remember the Tom Hanks thing. Granted, a bazillion things have happened in the last 4+ years 😵‍💫

The permanently disabled stop talking about it or they will get ignored by their family and friends so they talk as if everything is fine and avoid the topic.

I didn't think it will be a celebrity. I just don't.

When every HOUSEHOLD has a permanently disabled person... maybe... Maybe then.
