so update on SPC and Pleroma performance - after doing some analysis on my baby bitch 3 user instance based on @Moon's feedback I've discovered that my own performance should be SMOKIN' compared to what it is right now but I'm being hammered with Mastodon delete activities and my load is low enough for it to not be super noticeable, but if I stop processing deletes Pleroma goes REALLY fast!

Literally nothing terrified me more than a giant student loan, so I cancelled my dream of going to uni for compsci when I was in high school. It wasn't possible and my dad was recently disabled so it's not like my parents could help. I was able to get a grant for a vocational school and took an IT networking course, total student loan I had to take out was $8000 paid back many years ago.

I'm fortunate things worked out. How big is your student loan balance?

My apartment building sent an email berating tenants for bothering them about being locked out of their apartments due to the locks all being these really terrible bluetooth "smart locks" that often fail to work correctly so you have to fight with your phone for 5 minutes standing at the door to get it open. Most people won't figure out that force killing the app and toggling bluetooth is required to get it to connect quickly.

So I responded that instead perhaps they should cancel their contract with the vendor (Latch) and give us real keys again because someone is going to literally get murdered because they can't get the door open fast enough to escape an assailant.

Their response today was a giant wall of text about how it actually improves the building's security blah blah blah

So tired of fake car safety activists screaming about how touch screens are inherently dangerous when they don't spend any time experiencing what it's like to switch between car manufacturers because they live in a world where they e.g., only buy Fords so nothing ever changes in their view and everything is familiar

I'm on a vacation and my mother in law who has been driving for 40 years can't figure out how to get her Nissan into Reverse because they made the shifter bizarrely complicated for no good reason at all

I'm driving this piece of shit to pick up some necessities and nearly getting killed because there's a million buttons and lights everywhere unlabeled, all the steering wheel controls -- of which there are far too many to be safe -- are in a completely different layout than every other car I've driven.

This shit complete lunacy. The problem isn't touch screens, it's familiarity. If you want cars to be safe you need to mandate a standard layout of all buttons and controls in every car. Zero deviation. Every car should be identical.

Give me back my Tesla, a car that's actually safe to drive and has as minimal of an interior as possible
