@RevPudDudley LOL...as a lawyer I am compelled to reject the assumption that this is thinking like a lawyer! That's his problem apparently, he never learned HOW to think like a lawyer. Must have been one of those many, many, many, law students that think the professional responsibility classes are a "waste" of their time.

This post is for the Black and Brown people who post on Mastodon. Other people can read it but this thread is to open a dialogue with our community specifically. I was traveling in Chicago for most of this week and I had an opportunity to talk to quite a few working class folks during my stay. When traveling I usually try and take the temperature on what is happening in Black communities locally so politics comes up often. 1/5

Not a single person I talked to mentioned fascism nor the stakes connected with the election. Not a single one of them mentioned reproductive freedom and this included four Black women who I spent several hours with on Tuesday. Here are the topics they mentioned: lack of affordable housing, the city’s unwillingness to address the issues that hit them in their pocket, safety in their communities, and immigration. 2/5

They were mad about funds that were supposed to address local unhoused needs being diverted to the new influx of immigrants. None of the people I talked to had a clear understanding of what rights and responsibilities Congress had versus the limitations on Presidential action. All this to say, the issues for the mainstream democratic party platform did not address the concerns of their communities and their comments reflected that. 4/5
@nnedi Hi. On the dead bird site you used to mention a Black owned bookstore in Chicago that you frequented. Would you mind posting the name of the store?
#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter I had to log back in and share this ridiculous 'magical negro" story. Apparently in some dark fragment of the internet, the young Black mayor of Baltimore is being blamed for the bridge collapse. Apparently he was capable of driving the ship AND also building the bridge. Quite a feat since the bridge was built before he was born. I asked the DEI guests if they were responsible for the Boeing air plug but they denied responsibility! Magical negroes are scary.
@gdinwiddie Well...lowering standards through DEI gives them extra magical powers. We'll just ignore the part about the ship's company didn't allow the whistleblowers to make safety complaints. I'm sure DEI caused that too! I'm Black but I swear I need some of those magical negro powers. Life would be so much easier.
#politics#news#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter I'm always saying the upcoming elections depend on white women rejecting patriarchy and white supremacy. It's interesting to me then that the recruitment of Rona McDaniels at NBC started last year when she built a relationship with the two white women, Carrie Brown and Rebecca Blumenstein at NBC. It's true this year Rashida Jones did not stand up when the deal was voted on. But it all started last year. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/25/nbc-ronna-mcdaniel-chuck-todd-00148772
Talk to white women.
@fulanigirl It did work in Poland's last election. Due to the abortion laws instituted by the former government, the women had had enough and axed the conservatives.
@carl We'll see whether that is the case here. I think the hiring of McDaniels, with support from other white female executives may be an indication that the women here are not ready to move on.
This on top of vulture capitalists forcing the closing of Bed, Bath and Beyond. Local businesses were killed for the box stores and now there isn't anything left to replace them. 2/3
