'The Undertones' is the eponymous debut album by the Irish punk rock band The Undertones, released on this day in 1979.

The October 1979 re-released (Pic 2) included The Undertones' first two singles: "Teenage Kicks" and "Get Over You"

The Dead Kennedys singles collection from 1979 to 1982.

Hardly any band has produced more socially relevant songs than the Dead Kennedys

What is your top single from the band?

For me it’s definitely “Nazi Punks Fuck Off”

jpaskaruk,

@historyofpunkrock

When I stole my uncle's recorded tape, the first song that came on when I threw it in was Kill The Poor, and I come from a rather black-humoured clan, so that tends to be what bubbles to the top for me.

That said, it was a combination of reading the titles "Too Drunk To Fuck" and "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" that made me steal the tape in the first place.

@historyofpunkrock California Uber Alles, and of course Nazi Punks Fuck Off. We played a lot of the latter when Trump won.

The Bad Religion Collection until 2013

A punk rock band that produced many first-class albums, but also produced some slow sellers

Which is your favorite album?

TheZorse,
@TheZorse@hear-me.social avatar

@historyofpunkrock

No Control was the first one I bought, probably 3-4 years after it came out. For the next few years I was totally crazy for Bad Religion. But, as is often the case, I lost interest when they signed to a major and adopted that style of production.

As to favourites... when I was last into B.R., Suffer would have taken that title.

@historyofpunkrock Of course it was banned by the BBC. Pablum like ABBA's "Waterloo" was banned during the Gulf War ffs. I can't say US stations were any better. I doubt that "Too Drunk to Fuck" was played on any US stations, except maybe college radio.

The first punk festival in the GDR took place 41 years ago today. The festival was held in the Christusgemeinde church in Halle/Saale. At the time, punks had to be wary of the Stasi and the police apparatus and could only live out their freedom on church grounds. The first generation did a lot for the freedom of young people in the GDR. Thank you.

Post an underrated Guitarist:

Raymond John “East Bay Ray” Pepperell, guitarist for the Dead Kennedys.

Jello got all the attention with his performance. But the band wouldn't have become this band without their guitarist

Studio albums, live albums and compilations

Do you have a favorite?

For me it's like almost always, the debut album left such a lasting impression on me, it will probably always remain my top favorite

gryllus,
@gryllus@ecoevo.social avatar

@historyofpunkrock My favorite is Cool to Be You. The songs written by Karl Alvarez, particularly 'Merican, Dog and Pony Show, and Cool to Be You are excellent.

My second choice would be Everything Sucks. The title song is my go-to bad day song.
