Interesting development on the

Could criminal charges be made by Kris Mayes and a grand jury soon?
🔥🔥🔥 🙏🙏🙏

Arizona prosecutors in recent weeks issued grand jury subpoenas to multiple people linked to Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign, a sharp acceleration of their criminal investigation into efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state.

The new steps, first reported here, are a sign that Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, is nearing a decision on whether to charge Trump’s allies in the state, including GOP activists who falsely posed as presidential electors in December 2020.

Bluesky hashtagging lets you choose between seeing all posts with that tag, seeing all of the current user’s posts with that hashtag, or muting that hashtag entirely if you’re bored, tired, or offended by the topic.

Portability lets you take everything, including posts, to new provider.of choice, even self hosted.

I would like to see these features in Mastodon, esp moving posts.

It's troubling that VP Harris is so far out of the spotlight. As the person selected to be "a heartbeat from the presidency" it seems risky to not have her at his side more. Privately, I hope they have a plan to boost the hell out of her if Biden is looking unlikely to win in November due to health or the media's unrelenting age bias reporting. The possibility of losing to Trump has such high stakes, I cannot imagine there not being a solid Plan B in the works. Waiting for the

I know it's a long shot, but if Don the Con is convicted and/or from ballots in a sufficient number of states to block any chance of an win, how likely is it that we'll see his MAGA mob actively working to suppress under threats of violence? Is local law enforcement prepared to defend the voting process and election workers at the polls? This is going to be a long season.

Terrorists Don’t Deserve Bipartisanship. For months I’ve been hearing about pursuing a bipartisan America; about this nation needing to forge a new spirit of political collaboration if we ever hope to bridge the massive divides here... I don’t care about bipartisanship, I care about protecting humanity. If the fight for that humanity places me on one side of a partisan political line, that likely points to the inhumanity on the other side of it. I will not partner with terrorism and I refuse to make peace with white supremacy and I will not cooperate with fascists. I’m not apologizing for that and neither should the rest of us — John Pavlovitz

@StephenRamirez Agreed 100% - protests have seen 200k Germans marching under the slogan "We are the Firewall" for 4 weeks now, to protest against right-wing extremism and to show support for democracy. Unsure what it will take to get a comparable response to fascists here in the US. Quite a few mass-marches in 2017, but since? Outside of the BLM marches, not so much recently.

How does removing Trump from the ballot in 2024 (setting aside popular vote) effect the electoral college math? I can see how it would matter if this happened in Wisconsin or Arizona, but what is the net result electorally (since CO has voted reliably blue since 2008)?

I've followed a couple of useful accounts, put them in a list (and set them not to appear in my Home timeline), and added the list to a column in the advanced web interface. If all works as it should, it's like having an RSS reader without needing another app (useful for sites that don't offer an RSS feed, too).

I’m not looking to treat Mastodon like WebMD, but there are a lot of smart people on here, so I figured I'd see if I can find anyone who has any idea what's wrong with me.

Back in August, I got a cold. It wasn't COVID, but it was a sore throat, runny nose, and cough.

After about a week, everything was gone except a mild, dry cough (almost like a tickle) that makes me cough several times an hour.

My breathing has also been weaker since the start, but not terrible. I don't have a history of asthma and I really only notice when I intentionally try to inhale and realize my lungs don't appear to have the same strength or capacity they used to have.

After about two months, I went to the doctor to ensure all was well, but she was just like "Sometimes coughs linger. Here's a prescription for allergies and acid reflux in the event it's any of those things."

I don't have a history of either, but I was willing to try anything so I took everything for a month, but the cough never subsided. I also had a chest x-ray which looked normal.

It's now been 4 months with this dumb cough and I feel like a baby for complaining when it's not THAT bad, but still annoying to have had a cough for that long, especially during a time like COVID when everyone is on high alert.

I should note that whatever this is doesn't appear to be contagious because I've been coughing nonstop for four months and my husband never got sick.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and/or what I can try to do to get this cough to subside?

hunkabilly,
@hunkabilly@mas.to avatar

@Alice No idea if my experience matches yours, but in my case I just became more intentional about hydration daily and my cough that had persisted for many months was gone within about a week. Many people forget how critical it is to properly hydrate the body (especially here in a dry region/ Arizona). YMMV. Good luck.

Since is becoming less of a need for those wanting to remain connected to the :twitter: holdouts, with more and more of those folx moving to :mastodon: or 🧵 I'm wondering if anyone is doing a mapping exercise to let fediverse users find/connect to their new accounts here instead of there. I'd imagine many members of my bird.makeup list may have made the move, but hard to know easily.

hunkabilly,
@hunkabilly@mas.to avatar

@Gargron for all of us that leveraged the bird.makeup hack, to remain connected with the holdouts, do you anticipate anyone building a mapping utility that might permit Mastodon users to follow those :twitter: holdouts that finally made the move to :mastodon: or 🧵 ?

@hunkabilly@mas.to avatar

@trumpet given the recent news re: Threads plans to federate, would you explain the reasoning behind why the threads.net is currently blocked on mas.to? And whether this block is likely to remain in place? Thanks!

hunkabilly,
@hunkabilly@mas.to avatar

@trumpet Totally make sense. Hoping all goes well and even if a limited access is granted (such as what is available for bird.makeup) that might give us the ability to ease into it. Definitely appreciate the open mind and preserving mas.to from unintended consequences.
