The sky hates me. No pretty colors. Just light pollution. Go away humans and turn off the damn lights.

@DavBot @wollman could try cattle point, less light pollution there

Hard to run the AC when the extreme heat fuels wildfires which knocks out the electrical grid. https://climatejustice.social/@breadandcircuses/112418789473532453

At 42 degrees north, not expecting to see anything interesting in the sky even if the light pollution miraculously cut out for a while.

@wollman 48 degrees north here. I'm hoping to see something.

Taffer, to cars

We have a car lease expiring soon, and I'd REALLY like to replace it with a hybrid. It's a Nissan Rogue, and we need something about that size/configuration.

  • I resent needing to own a car; Canada is far too car-centric.
  • Toyota, Kia, Honda all have decent hybrid
  • Toyota, Kia, Honda don't have any stock, and the wait times are 5-12 months

Seems like there's a missed opportunity here for someone making hybrids…

This piece about how uncompetitive US and European EVs are compared to what’s being made in China is a real wake up call to anyone not familiar with the standard of cars “over there”.

It’s like the 1970s all over again where incumbents just thought they could get away with focusing on high price, high margin big cars, ignoring what customers wanted, and ended up losing market share to better made, more affordable Japanese cars.

@mrchrisadams @getalifemike @jgkoomey one of the comments on that article claims "china is the country that is doomed", and all I can do is imagine the poster slowly shrinking and transforming into a corn cob, dril-style. "I'm not doomed! I'm not doomed!"

Perhaps I should just start a religion* around the principle of designing all aspects of life to minimize the profit your actions cause to incorporated entities

  • I would structure it this way because in the United States, doing a thing because a religion said to gives you special rights you would not get if you did the thing because you wanted to

Can you imagine? Turning replies to questions on social media into a competitive sport?

Hard to imagine a signal that a website is a rugpull more intense than banning users for trying to delete their own posts

“You know something weird? When Legendary Jon Skeet passed one million reputation points in 2018, Stack Overflow celebrated by creating a Markov chain bot that spit out Skeet-shaped answers to arbitrary questions. At the time everyone seemed to think this was harmless fun.

In retrospect, it looks like foreshadowing.”

kboyd,

@steveshives heh. Because I haven't started it yet, I thought you meant like Bad Batch's nonexistent intro credits that still get a skip intro button.

But then the theme song started playing in my head.

kboyd, to cycling
@kboyd@phpc.social avatar

So, what's the recommended way to transport a fast food order for a family of four by bike?

I mean, my bike has a basket, so that's an easy solve for the food part. But the drinks! What's the recommended way to bike with four large sodas?

I'm tempted to learn basic CAD and 3D print some kind of 4x wide cupholder to hang from the front of the basket. Or two 2x holders to hang from each side.

kboyd,
@kboyd@phpc.social avatar

Yes, the obvious solution is "don't order drinks, least of all four large sodas". But forget that. Work the problem. 😂
