@nora As someone who uses both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom mobile, LrM isn't the absolute worst. And it has a raw-shooting-mode built in (and available as a lockscreen widget) for newer iphones.

When it comes to business success, people say: “don’t look at the outliers. Be wary of survivorship bias!”

But every successful entrepreneur is an outlier!

The vast majority of business attempts fail.

To see what works, look at the survivors.

@mijustin but that is exactly what survivorship bias is; if you only look at the ones that succeed, you won't be able to distinguish the things they did that worked from the things they did that the failed companies also did just as well or better. You won't see the full picture, so you won't be able to focus on the parts that really matter.

I might be wrong but I can’t recall a single time the word “star” is uttered or a star features in any plot point of Star Wars. The closest I can think of is shots of the twin suns of Tatooine.

Edit: I was wrong. Death Star, and Starkiller Base are two obvious examples.

It is absolutely mind bending how many options ffmpeg has. I've been trying to convince it to use the old Radeon 2600 Pro graphics hardware acceleration. No luck finding the magic command yet! :)

@chris I forget exactly how it was phrased when I first heard it, but someone once wrote that many cloud utility businesses (not cloud providers like AWS, but individual tech startups) are basically just wrappers around unix commands.

ffmpeg is one of those commands that could spawn a whole slate of startups from its flags alone.

Sometimes I run across a YouTuber who’s really hyper - like, lots of quick motions, fast talking, darting back and forth or whatever. (Adam Savage is like this, for example.) While watching I start to feel like my heart is beating faster or something. I might rock more vigorously in my easy chair. Or lean forward more. It affects me. I feel jealous, kinda. I wish I could feel that rush they seem to live with. But alas, I am slow and lazy. Watching these people work wears me out. Time for bed.

@bigzaphod Hard same, especially the jealous bit. I wish I had Babish's energy (Andrew Rea). How Ridiculous's energy is great, but might be a bit too far for me. Savage is a good one - an engrossing storyteller.

I quietly tell myself that it's secretly all an act. And I'm sure sometimes it might be (not every day can be an A-Game day) - but if it is, it's an enviable skill.
