👋 Hi, I’m @n8chz.
👀 I’m interested in reverse engineering, especially under adversarial conditions.
🌱 I’m currently learning operations research, optimization theory, simulation, and statistics.
💞️ I’m looking to collaborate on volunteer curation of large nonproprietary datasets.

This thing I'm hearing about this is there a theme to it? Is it about gaming blogging or something? In 50 words or less, what is it about? Just and ?

tbh there's never a time I'm not against the marketers. I'm opposed in principle to marketing. I do not regard it as an honest line of work, and that is the hill I will die on.

By this time next year, we could be facing a national abortion ban and restrictions on access to contraception and IVF -- unless we act. MAGA extremism is threatening almost every aspect of our reproductive freedom. We're mobilizing so we can win in November and restore reproductive rights for every American. lori,

@c0dec0dec0de @indivisibleteam @tjtreehugger2 They have something worse than a platform. They have a detailed game plan to hit the ground running, and probably some contingency plans.

I was always (unironically) inspired by the fact that a particularly persistent pawn can sometimes be promoted to queen. I've never come anywhere near mastering the game (I'm not ANYONE's worthy opponent) but there are -so- few transformations of that type, even symbolic, in any cultural artifact. But now they've ruined the game's appeal for me.

My reasons for proposing , a crowdsourced effort to reverse engineer against data asymmetries between business and society, were motivated largely by the desire to create a volunteer-run, , deeply searchable “catalog of the economy.” The Internet contains many websites that purport to facilitate comparison shopping for various products, but these are invariably for-profit businesses in their own right. They dispense 10 or 20 single data points (embedded of course in bloated web pages) in response to queries, not direct access to the database itself. And which firms’ prices are or are not included in results are most likely a matter of behind-the-scenes exclusivity deals.

Defeating marginalist theory would go a long way toward restoring the long-lost dignity of labor.

Left libertarians are a thing. Libertarian meant anarchist (and definitely not "anarcho"-capitalist) for about a century before certain corporate-funded messaging campaigns invented "libertarian" as a re-branding for laissez-faire capitalism.

To me, the economy hasn't felt good (let alone great) yet (and I'm almost 60). I think the reasons for this is because most of the economic problems I experience are structural, not cyclical. I don't much care what part of the economic cycle we're in at any given time, and I'm not generally inclined to attribute either credit or blame to politicians when it comes to cyclical economic phenomena. I want to undo the structural changes that took place (broadly speaking) somewhere between the 1970s and 1980s, when it was decided that either job security or jobs with benefits should be a LOT to ask for. Absent that reversal, as far as I'm concerned, the economy is in a permanent recession.

They didn't have to ban the Yellow Pages, as they were able to successfully obviate it (or enshittify it to the point where everyone simply ignores the now-tiny unrequested Yellow Pages booklet that they received). Back when Yellow Pages was a thing I had a copy, and you had a copy, and being copies they were the same. Singe source of truth (SSOT), the beating heart of every distributed database worthy of the designation. The large print giveth signal dilution via noise, but the small print is just the commercial subset of the White Pages, only in subject order. Online "Yellow Pages," by contrast...

Is the incredible rarity of entry level postings a reflection of a manageriat that is trying to filter out entry level candidates, or one that is trying to filter out those who take stated requirements at face value?

@falcennial I blog unmonetized at astoundingteam.com/wordpress but I don't post very often.

serious question: why do many (most?) people share 2 grammatical versions of their pronouns, like he/him, she/her, they/them?

Why choose these arbitrary ones, instead of only the first one, trusting people know how to decline them? Or use all declensions like he, his, him or they, their, them?

genuinely curious how this developed, since I was kind of late to the pronoun party.

#pronouns #gender

lori,

@lex It may be that there are some genderfluid people for whom gender varies with case (he/her or she/him). Perhaps doing things and experiencing things others do are experienced in different genders for some, but this is only speculation on my part. I'm on team she/her.
