After drawing on my iPad screen for years and getting jittery lines, this video and the fact it was my screen protector blew my mind. Is there a screen protector that doesn't do this? And isn't matte, because despite drawing nice those destroy the colors

🧵Free trials are a waste of everyone's time

Today I'm offering a very controversial take on trials. Industry standard is to offer them… but at Nozbe we just stopped doing that 🛑. We've found out that trials are ineffective so so let’s do something different:

Hey @gruber I was thinking about this whole Apple in EU saga and I think what the guys at @atpfm recently said mixed with Steve Jobs from 1997 Macworld should really be the way going forward for Apple:

@_Davidsmith quick question - I remember back in the day using Workouts++ to customize my “perfect workout” - so I could customize the workout just so. I understand the app is discontinued, right?

Now that I have my Apple Watch Ultra 2, I’d like to do the same, but I cannot see a similar option in Pedometer++ - will you consider adding this kind of customization for it in the future? Or are there any other apps of yours that let me configure the workout on my big Ultra screen?

Spent some time today redesigning TextCorrect, my app that uses OpenAI to correct texts and then highlights the differences between the original text and the corrected text. I think this design refresh makes the app way more coherent.

The macOS app has received to configure a global hotkey that brings the app to the foreground in order to quickly correct a text.

And lastly, both apps now have two Shortcuts actions: Correct Text and Diff Text 😀

jQuery is the best what happened to all time

michael,

@krzyzanowskim yeah but luckily it’s mostly not needed anymore. I prefer vanilla js now.

michael,
@michael@nozbe.com avatar

@krzyzanowskim nope. Just pure javascript. No wrapper. I’m learning to use it from: https://javascript.info - most browsers these days support modern JS.

I just pushed out a new build of the TestFlight I'm running for Pedometer++. This major update is focused around making it the best companion possible for hiking with an iPhone or Apple Watch. It includes:

  • In-app advanced route planning on both iPhone and  Watch.
  • Offline map download of hiking oriented maps
  • Full re-design of the Watch app to make it really shine on watchOS 10

I'm always looking for more testers, if that sounds like your kind of thing: https://testflight.apple.com/join/M6Qy0xj7

An Apple Watch with a map showing an area of the Isle of Skye called the Old Map on Storr. A green route marker is overlaid on top.
A map is shown with a route in the Isle of Skye along the Old Man of Storr. Below the map there is an elevation plot and indications that it is a 24 mile hike with 6 thousand feet of elevation gain, and estimated to take 11 hours to walk.
A screenshot showing the offline maps view within Pedometer++ there is a route marked on the map which is downloaded already but the surrounding map tiles have buttons saying “download” next to them.

@michael@nozbe.com avatar

@_Davidsmith yesterday had my first run with this beta and just my Apple Watch Ultra 2. Glorious experience having the map overlay and the route planning. Thank you 🙏

michael,
@michael@nozbe.com avatar

@_Davidsmith one small feedback. When I’m browsing routes on the watch, don’t you want to put a call to action there? Like start workout or just icon to start walk or run?

@codinghorror @tcook totally. Tried to be brave but then I think about the phone too much. When it’s in the case I don’t care about it at all.

@MuseumShuffle you’re so right. I’ve been using bike digital despite the time being shown vertically because it was the best digital with complications face. Now I did get the ultra and the ultra modular face is glorious. It shouldn’t be exclusive to it

Hey @gruber the more I read your comment on the modem story the more I think the article is more targeting Intel than Apple. Because if the A or M chips are so easy to make (much easier than modems, right? 🤪) then Intel must be really bad at doing the “easy” processors as it’s so far behind Apple. 😆

michael,
@michael@nozbe.com avatar

@gruber I’m sure they just put so much heart and soul into the modems, that their “easy” Snapdragon chips are just an afterthought and they don’t have the bandwidth to dedicate to them. Too bad all Android phones are based on these.

BTW, I tested my two-year-old 13 Mini and it’s 15% faster than latest Samsung Galaxy Ultra in Geekbench and 2X faster in Speedometer 😜

Interactive Widgets have been a delightful playground to explore for Widgetsmith this summer. I've tried to be as creative and broad as possible in my initial offerings. I've built interactive photo galleries, flippable widgets, a CoverFlow-esque music browser, scrollable weather widgets, browsable calendars, and even a game.

Here's a 60-second walkthrough video I made because interactivity really works best in motion.

You can learn interesting things about AirTags by using them in unsupported places, like on a dog's collar…

Somehow in a year of use the speaker no longer works, it doesn't trigger unknown-tracking/found notifications on other devices, and ‘precise’ directional finding doesn't work — but location updates still function as normal 👀 Turns out you don't need to hack it open and modify the firmware to make it a silent tracker?

michael,
@michael@nozbe.com avatar

@stroughtonsmith But you can - I’ve removed speakers (which is fairly easy) to put one in my car just to make sure it’s tracked:
