Interesting side note in the Q&A to Schlomo Shapiro's talk about using a central identity for authentication: Work with smaller service providers whom you can still contact directly (even via snail mail) instead of the big, anonymous ones, to escape the scenario "I can't regain access to my central identity because I lost access to my central identity".

My work and personal laptops. 😍

These are two amazing machines in their own way. Stunning screens, very competent keyboards and superb trackpads. I even rarely use the TrackPoint anymore on the ThinkPad 😱

They both run 3 displays well, and have very decent battery life 🔋 They are also very solid, and well put together.

Each has some advantages over the other, but they’re excellent on the whole. 😍

Had some feedback that gave me an idea, and I think I really like it.

A video that shows a sneak peak from my upcoming blog post. At the top is a box labelled "tasks", in that box there are two list items: - Click the button to send a request to the server. - Click the button rapidly to see a request get dropped. Below that is another box with a circular button on the left, and a black square on the right. A cursor moves to the button and clicks. An orange circle is fired from the button to the square, and then slowly disappears. As this happens, the first list item gets struck through. Then the cursor clicks rapidly, and one of the orange circles bounces off the square because there's already a circle inside it. As it does, it turns red and falls off screen. The 2nd list item gets struck through.

I have a domain, say "example.net" and I want to setup a couple of redirects so that "example.net/awesome" redirects to "foobar.com/something"

I don't want to manage a server or nginx config for this.

I currently use Gandi Web Forwarding but it doesn't support HTTPS.

Any recommendation for something as low maintenance as possible?

Almost every Linux CLI tool that requires you to edit a file will consult the EDITOR environment variable to spawn the editor you prefer. So, if you want to use nano instead of vim, simply set it as your default editor in your .bashrc or .zshrc:

Tabs vs spaces has always been a controversial topic. Thankfully, vim isn't biased in any way.

To convert spaces to tabs, execute the command :set noexpandtab, followed by :retab!.

Vice versa, you can convert tabs to spaces with the command sequence:

:set expandtab
:set tabstop=4
:set shiftwidth=4
:retab

Have you ever frozen your Linux terminal by accidentally pressing Ctrl+s? That's a feature to stop it from scrolling off, and you can unfreeze it by pressing Ctrl+q.
