After I finish a book that's a bit of a slog (or, most recently, DNF), I like to treat myself with something awesome that I can really dive into. Yesterday for a palate cleanser, I decided to resume my stalled re-read of the Dark Tower series with Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower 5) by Stephen King. Mr. King is ridiculously reliable when it comes to providing something good to read. @bookstodon

movation,
@movation@fnordon.de avatar

@paulpap @dbsalk @hsgilchrist @bookstodon interesting... I've read my fair share of Mr. King. The ones I liked most were probably Insomnia, On Writing, and Dreamcatcher (read it pre movie). Loved the premise of Cell, but it screamed cheap movie adaptation from the start. And while I am at movies, boy, Langoliers, of course Needful Things, and the Mr. Mercedes TV show were awesome.

I'm tempted to read Cassidy Hutchinson’s book, but I have a policy of not buying or reading such "tell alls" when I think the person could have come out sooner and done more. And most of it will come out anyways. It's not like she is a writer with something to say. Making a book in her situation is just the obvious thing to do.

Has anyone read it?

Part of having a writing habit can be having a specific time and place to write.

For me, I have recently set up a little tiny desk in a quiet corner that holds a little tablet with a keyboard that is for nothing but writing, and so far it seems to be working quite well.

Do you have a special place for writing. Or are you able to write anywhere, anyhow?

Write well!

@rabbit_fighter @bookstodon maybe the Sector General series by James White. It's pretty fun with lots of quirky aliens working together peacefully.

@aprilfollies @rabbit_fighter @bookstodon which reminds me, the "best science fiction (and fantasy) of the year" short story collections of the 80ies were what made me love scifi, and you get a taste of the wide variety and possibilities of the genre

@Jeffool @lunalein @bookstodon it depends. There are a few audiobooks I would mention as such because the narration was outstanding. Alan Cummings' Not My Father's Son is one of these.

Know her name: Caroline Herschel (1750-1848) made contributions to that are still important to the field today.

And she’s just one in a long line of female astronomers who did not receive the credit they were due and whose work was used to justify prizes for male scientists instead.

@nichorra @bookstodon kind of depends on where in Europe, and what kind of books. The easiest way is usually EvilBezos, unfortunately, or Abebooks. In NL, Athenaeum is a good choice https://www.athenaeum.nl/
