So is guilty? Can he run for president or is just business as usual?

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@liztai The Constitution has these rules for the office: 1) 35 or over, 2) must be a US citizen when born, 3) no third terms, 4) not convicted if impeached, and 5)not a participant in insurrection.

Number 5 has a problem, it seems no one can temove an insurrectionist—one court has found as a matter of fact that Trump supported insurrection—from the ballot for President. If an insurrectionist is elected, can a Federal Court block the person from taking office?

In the wake of the crowing by Trump and crew that the guilty verdict is a boon to his campaign and fundraising, were I a member of the national press, I’d ask why the ex-President and now-felon won’t immediately change his plea to guilty in his other three trials.

I mean, if it’s to his benefit to be judged a lawbreaker, why not get the benefit now?

I usually post on social media the playlist for our radio show a few days ahead (Friday for a Tuesday show).
Does it make any difference?
Does it make you want to tune in and listen?
Do the artists themselves find it useful and appreciate it?

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@SylviaSolanas As an artist, yes, I do my best to listen if someone is nice enough to play our track. Real world considerations, such as time zones, sleep, and work hours may mean I can’t.

At the least, I’m happy to tell my tens of followers about your program.

There is a problem with remembering if the advance time is too much in advance, which, for me, is over 48 hours. Next day is optimal, again for me.

@limneticvillains@mastodon.online avatar

Does this mean Trump is gone? Is it all over for the stupid corrupt orange git now? Can we finally move on as a planet?

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@limneticvillains @etherdiver Well, one very real thing wrong with the US Justice system is too many people are sent to jail.

It is routine, though, to have a 30-60 day period between verdict and sentencing. The prosecution and defense each write up their suggestions for the penalty. The Judge reviews and rules. Defendants who were free during the trial remain free during this time. Those who weren’t return to prison.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@limneticvillains @etherdiver Had Trump behaved before and during the trial, I don’t think there’d been jail time in his sentence. (What I don’t know is what New York law identifies as the range for incarceration or fines for this type of crime.)

But, all the externalities come into play at sentence time. 30 days to 6 months based on pushing against the edge of contempt, lying about the proceedings, and encouraging protests, would not surprise me.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@limneticvillains @etherdiver Be prepared, though, whether jail time is part of the sentence or not, he’ll appeal and the sentence is held in abeyance while that process continues.

Bronwyn, to SanFrancisco
@Bronwyn@sfba.social avatar

In 1849 were people actually told that there was gold in San Francisco or did they know it was another 80 miles away after they got off the boat?

It sure would be a bummer to get all the way to San Francisco (pre-Panama canal) and then realize you had to go another 80+ miles up on the hills to even have a chance.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@Bronwyn I would think it axiomatic for a Gold Rusher to seek a place where others weren’t but in proximity to where gold was found. Gold fields as they stepped off the boat? I doubt they expected that. A hundred more miles after traveling thousands doesn’t seem out of order. If my read of history is any good, they were shocked by the cost of supplies and equipment—the first rude late wake-up call.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@Bronwyn Well, you remind me, never underestimate how much bull some people believe. You could be right. I have no doubt that was part of the sales pitch for people buying passage.

Tracks selected and artwork created for our August single.

The A-side tells the tale of an unfortunate who took advice from a song. The B-side finds the narrator stuck on a bus with a grand fabulist.

Target date for streamer availability, August 1. It will be at our Bandcamp page sooner than that.

"Last Day" will be on our eleventh album in early 2025.

In the 1970s and 1980s, bands made money from album sales and concerts just promoted the album.

In the 2020s, bands make pennies from streams and rely on concerts to make money.

A industry scholar and former drummer looks at how this plays into the government’s antitrust lawsuit: https://theconversation.com/why-the-us-government-is-trying-to-break-up-live-nation-entertainment-a-music-industry-scholar-explains-230832

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@TheConversationUS @lisamelton Let’s not forget that the vast majority of bands, and mine was one of them in the 80s, got nowhere near a record contract, and the vast majority of those who did get a contract did not sell enough recordings to retire the advances.

Add that a shockingly small percent of those with a contract had one ten years later, and one should conclude that for a musician playing live or sidemen (union) gigs, not the hit record, were the ways to make a living.
