Most people getting EBT cards do work and they usually work at low paying jobs like Walmart or fast food places, or factory or maintenance jobs.

But even if they don’t, we should be feeding hungry kids. Republicans all over the country have been rejecting programs like this. Democratic governors create and expand them.

I've felt two earthquakes in London, where we don't get earthquakes. So NE USA is amusing.

1# was in a meeting, about three floors up in a building. Everything swayed briefly. I thought it was me until I saw from the expression of the guy opposite that he'd felt it too.

2# was in the early hours. Husband was still up. House rattling woke me. And, being woken, I needed the loo. On my way back, husband asked why I'd been so noisy. I replied that it wasn't me, it was the earthquake.

Masa Tiganitas is Sephardi Matzah Brei, But Much Better

Baklava meets matzah brei in this delicious Greek dish for Passover.

"...In Sternberg’s version, matzah squares are soaked in milk, dipped in a combination of egg and yogurt and then fried in oil. As opposed to matzah brei, or bumelos de masa, the matzah in Sternberg’s recipe is not crushed. They are left whole, dunked, fried and then sweetened with a drizzle of honey or arrope (a syrup made of grapes), and topped with a sprinkling of walnuts. Think fried matzah meets baklava. I am in love.

Other countries gain economic developmental advantage from the range of people with english proficiency.

So turning that around: does the UK's 'natural' speaking of English mask or reduce (some) economic deficiencies that would otherwise be problems?.

Thought experiment: if the UK did no speak the globe's second language what would be the implication for its economic development?

Erm, textile was one of the first industries to be automated. Spinning jenny, power loom, all that stuff from the early 19th century. Textile is also a very powerful source of algorithmic thinking - jacquard looms, knitting patterns in general.

Woven fabrics are 2d by nature, so you have to work with that. Whereas with knitting, the ability to shape 3d surfaces is inherent. Just add/lose stitches as needed.

I've changed a lot of things. The one I give thanks for every day is all the physiotherapy I had in my 40s (should have done it much sooner) to correct the (very common) postural imbalance I'd had since childhood.

I can and do now actually use my glutes properly instead of my quads and it makes all the difference in the world.

Well yes and there is a more basic problem with mass adoption of VR. Even before you get to eye strain, motion sickness or arm fatigue...

Who the heck wants to strap a mask to their face? Sure, there might be some specific purposes for which some people will perceive that as worthwhile. Meetings certainly aren't one. I can't personally imagine anything that would make me want to do that.

I reckon it'll always be a minority thing.

Valuable lessons were learned, but not the ones that the mother thought would be learned.🤷🏿‍♂️

  • She learned that millions of Black people haven't been "making it all up" about police mistreatment
  • She learned why US Black folk almost never call the police, for any reason
  • Her son learned that his own mom is not safe. Her lack of understanding of US racism makes her dangerous
  • She's probably going to learn that this does not meet the definition of police misconduct

Pretty sure that in the UK if you dial 999, ask for an ambulance (rather than police or fire service) then say it's for a road traffic accident, the police are always called out as well. They may need to clear the road and make it safe for other users, quite apart from the possibility of criminal charges.

The big difference is that here the police don't routinely carry guns.

I'm not American. But patronage (as we call it here), including appointing judges, is among the most important powers of the incumbent regime. And it persists beyond the lifetime of that regime. We've seen this with Roe v Wade overturned.

The US president's power to appoint judges is one of the most compelling reasons to vote for Biden, even if you're lukewarm about him in other respects.

If I've understood this correctly, the headline figure doesn't only exclude many sexual offences. It also excludes fraud, and online scamming in general. Major crimes that harm people badly.
