I just found out one actually useful use case for #LLM (a.k.a. “AI”).

There is thousands of tonnes of documents from #german #nazi #regime detailing basically everything what happened, who was involved and who participated what and said what.

Feed ALL of that to an LLM and ask it “how can we avoid this happening ever again”. I have a pretty good guess my self but some people aren’t that convinced. Perhaps this is The Key.

Someone told me that non-alcoholic Guinness is actually good. I haven’t tried it yet but it’s worth trying.

If it’s not good, at least it will be worth the story because non-alcoholic Guinness is a bizarre concept.

@atomicpoet I just recently visited a small brewery and learned why NA beers usually taste so bad. Alcohol mixes well both with water and fat soluble substances. The latter is basically all the flavors and without alcohol the mix simply does not … mix.

My treasure hunt is still on, even against all the odds 🫣

I was reminded last night that volunteer computing projects are a thing, and so I ran some rough numbers out of curiosity, and it turns out power doesn't cost all that much here? The average cost last year was 8 cents per kWh. If I ran my beefy work computer's CPU at full load that's like 25 bucks a month.

So that got me thinking, I could set up a dedicated machine for running, folding@home or something, and just set a fixed monthly budget for it.

@aeva also quite a lot of that consumed energy turns to heat - and can be used to reduce the need of regular (electricity driven?) house or condo heating. Most effective during winters ofc but might be significant depending on location and building tech.

@TransitBiker @tml Not necessarily. The spinning speed is not THAT high.

Also the tracks on CD’s start from the inside unlike on LP vinyls so this actually might work for a while. Worth a try!

We had a talk with our 7yo who is learning to read but still feels it quite difficult. Both of us parents all the time but turned out she does not see us reading books that much.

I read news mainly on a tablet every morning, and have a pile of books next to my bed.
My spouse reads and researches a lot but mainly behind a closed door or after kids go to bed.

What was missing from the picture is us reading novels - the actual books - during the day where the can see it.

    Ilkka Kivi tosin totesi, ettei lainkaan herjannut vaan ihan vaan totesi objektiivisen faktan Halla-ahon oman toiminnan perusteella. Ja siltähän se kyllä ihan tosiaan vaikuttaa.

    @foone If you need I can help with the translation. Acronyms are hard to translate unless you actually know the language (I do).
    The third one is not in Finnish, though, but looks fairly clear to me anyway.

    Reminder that the only safe dummy domains to use are:

    • example.com
    • example.net
    • example.org

    And nowadays there's also a safe dummy TLD: .example

    These are safe because they are reserved by IANA as as special-use domain names for documentation purposes on direction of IETF in RFC 2606 and RFC 6761.

    Any other domain can be registered and as such should never be used as a dummy domain for documentation or as eg. an example in default configs.
