We're being force-migrated from Zoom to Teams (to save some Schekels) which was a bit of a wrench at first but I've found a few things which I prefer in Teams:

  • Dedicated "raise hand" vs "react" buttons on the toolbar
  • Visualised sequencing for people who raised their hand so you can go through in order
    I do always struggle to find the "mute" button for some reason (seems to be common with lots of people) and the video quality is pretty poor compared to Zoom but I can live with it.

@tdp_org were you also force migrated to the electron app or do you actually use in a browser? for me, using it in does not work because i refuse to accept 3rd party cookies. separate calls in a private window work for some minutes and then get increadibly slow and erratic. so much so that i start to suspect this might even be on purpose, because given that and work flawlessly for hours i see no good reason to not make trams work in ff…

I'm looking for resources, experiences, conversations, books and papers on revenue models for open source software, as I'm releasing a product that needs to be under GPLv3.

I'm specifically looking into monthly and annual donations and "sponsor a feature" sort of deals on top of service contracts.

There's already interest, so it's more about defining the methods rather than this being possible or not.

Oh noooo, I just realized that obviously the original hackers wiki is offline (used to be under bash-hackers.org). But apparently flokoe *) made an effort to revive it: https://github.com/flokoe/bash-hackers-wiki
If you ever read this, thank you!

*) I could not find them on mastodon, there are accounts by the same name, but look unrelated

Internet search is absolute shit.

Question: Is there a way to block/ignore a function provided by a library in favor of my own so I don't have to rename things?

Ex: I have my own code with a 'pause' function, but the code requires "unistd.h" for other stuff. "unistd.h" already has a 'pause' function (different return/params, etc.)

Is there a way to include "unistd.h" but tell the compiler to favor my 'pause' function instead?

#C

slink,
@slink@fosstodon.org avatar

@gershman search: use
use library function names: don't. while you can play some preprocessor trickery, all you will end up with is confusion all over the place.

Did you ever write any application over Unix domain ? If yes, then can you please tell me about the usecase?

Please boost for more reach.

slink,
@slink@fosstodon.org avatar

@kushal with , UDS and abstract sockets on linux are the preferred way to access local resources (and across containers in the same pod) because, besides being more efficient and potentially more secure, their use avoids running out of ephemeral tcp ports. concrete examples are tls off-/onloading with and recursive requests from varnishd to itself.

slink,
@slink@fosstodon.org avatar

@kushal we too use willy's PROXY protocol to pass through socket and tls info as mentioned by @jamey , but also we use it in a less known configuration for outgoing tls onloading.

A website at work added the AI search engine YouBot to robots.txt and blocks all other requests from that user agent.

So now we get requests from the same IP address (in Amazon's netspace) claiming to be Googlebot.

slink,
@slink@fosstodon.org avatar

@rrwo unsolicited psa: always run a reverse + forward dns check to validate it's really googlebot https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/verifying-googlebot#automatic
