Was all geared up for another viewing of Gene Roddenberry’s #Andromeda only to discover it has vanished from #PrimeVideo

As has #DoctorWho

Just after adding an extra charge for the “privilege” of ad-free viewing

thephoeron,

@rayckeith Yeah, it is frustrating. I find Tubi to be unwatchable precisely because of the ads. Product placements in shows are offensive enough, y’know?

At least here in Canada, only the latest season is on Disney+. We were promised all 13 seasons of the reboot, with Classic Who still in talks. It was pulled from Crave, so I cancelled Crave, signed up for Disney+, and binged The Orville, Futurama, and all the Star Wars I could stomach waiting for RTD’s specials and the new season (and what a season!).

Still no sign of any other seasons.

As for Androneda, only the first season is available to buy outright on the Apple TV store, which is a little suspicious. This reminds me of the time they “replaced” Farscape with the new remastered versions by deleting the series from the store, AND my library, then re-adding it as a new show to force repurchase when I already own a license. Okay, I admit it, I did it for Farscape because it’s Farscape.

So on THAT note… I know what I’m watching tonight. Y’know. Assuming I can manage to put Starfield down before falling asleep at the console.

Coming back to my playthrough last night after a bit of a break and this is exactly how green it made me feel

thephoeron, to Starfield
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Was reading through the revised EULA for the new update just now, and honest to god it says “you should take breaks from gameplay every 10 to 15 minutes” and “you should not play the game under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or while taking prescription medication…” (paraphrased)

I actually snorted. And then quit the game. I don’t normally snort-laugh, or take EULAs all that seriously. But that’s just how ridiculous this updated EULA is.

Talk about alienating your audience, and

Returning to my original playthrough (Level 186) to speed-run the final confrontation with The Hunter and The Emissary—because whatever comes next has gotta be better than a Va’ruun-Zealot-Andreja universe, right?

… Right?

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

This end-run sequence really needs some variety to it. Like, it should be particular to the universe you’re leaving behind

thephoeron, to Starfield
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

I find it uniquely satisfying that I reached Level 100 while rabbitholing down every random aside mission instead of just going straight to Londinion days ago when I first could have: currently, that means helping Mitch of Cydonia acquire the complete first printings collection of the DragonStar Force saga

@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

I… actually BOUGHT a ship…

Yes. I’m at Level 93, and my second universe, and this is the very first ship I’ve actually paid for instead of commandeered. It needs a lot of work in terms of upgrades, but it’s a slick design and has everything I need exactly where it should be

Oh, and the bridge? You’ve gotta see it to believe it

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

@darth I would… but really you should buy this ship for yourself to see

You can get it from the Ship Builder at your outposts

Put together the most amazing spacesuit set for Andreja

Started with the Advanced UC Startroop suit, and added a killer variant of the UC Marine helmet and Bounty Hunter balanced pack—each fully upgraded, of course

Suppose I should get Startroop suits for the rest of my crew, too, but no rush on that

thephoeron, to Starfield
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

It took a LOT longer to romance Andreja in the new universe as a Starborn—and yeah, she did ask without wanting to know the answer who we were to each other in my original universe

So that got me thinking. In my headcanon? The infinity of the multiverse doesn’t individuate the parallel selfs, it merely exposes the infinite potential of every moment, the choices that could have been made and the resulting consequences. Isn’t that the notion of Unity? Becoming Starborn means coming to know yourself and remain true across all possible timelines simultaneously. That means, there is only one Andreja.

Meanwhile, Sarah has been twice as pushy and even though we firmly agreed to a platonic friendship she won’t stop aggressively flirting with me, while Barrett has shown zero interest in me in this universe. It’s kind of bizarre.

@louis @PuercoPop Yeah, I’m pretty vocal about my love for KnowledgeWorks—full integration of CLOS+MOP with Common SQL, Prolog, and production systems, the Meta-Rule Protocol… I mean, I could go on and on and on but like seriously you just gotta use KW for yourself

PS: I used KW in-production at Black Brane, and while yes that has proven to be the most problematic aspect of trying to open-source the codebase, for commercial AI-driven software there’s nothing better

thephoeron, to Starfield
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

So wait. You choose to become Starborn and the fucking credits roll? JUST LIKE THAT?!?

Where’s my mind-fuck of a multiverse hopping campaign??? Where’s the universe where I can actually sell and modify Starborn ships??? Where’s my damn Starborn spacesuit??? AND WHERE THE HELL IS ANDREJA

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Oh wait there’s more after the credits… I’m in a Starborn ship. I remember all that I’ve learned but lost everyone and everything I ever knew.

I can continue the game, exploring this new universe and all it has to offer. Even choose to go through the Unity again. And again. And again. Ad infinitum.

That’s more fuckin’ like it.

And you’re damn right I’m gonna find Andreja again.

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Finally get to a spacesuit workbench and what do I find? No upgrade slots on Starborn Spacesuit Astra

Not to mention I’m stuck with an old-earth shotgun as a weapon

Oh yeah and I have to pay off the bloody mortgage on my Nesoi “dream home” again. I think in this universe I’m just going to let the bank foreclose on it

But on the plus side, collecting powers in this new universe upgrades my existing ones!!

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

So far? This new universe is a bigger dumpster fire than the dead bird app

  • the only soda is black liquorice flavoured
  • vendors don’t seem to sell digipicks, so I can’t pick any locks despite my mastery of the relevant skill
  • evolution took a turn for the worse, xenos are next-level revolting to behold and pretty belligerent about it
  • for some freaky reason my health isn’t regenerating, food has even less nutritional value here than the joke it was in my original one, I keep breaking my limbs and getting other weird injuries
  • looting is a serious pain in the ass, but scarcity means vendors pay me much more even for actual trash
  • AND THERE’S STILL NO SIGN OF ANDREJA

So yeah. This IS the darkest timeline

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Thank God Almighty! I found some cola and root beer as loot.

Oh right I also found a digipick. Yes... Just the one so far.

I’m seriously regretting becoming Starborn. This new universe is just one facepalm after another.

Oh that reminds me. Haven’t heard a single word about Terrormorphs in this universe yet. Weird, right? Of course the average predator in any given biome is now much more repulsive and aggressive than the worst Terrormorphs I faced in my original universe. So…

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Couldn’t take flying around the galaxy in a Starborn Guardian anymore, so went and hijacked a Spacer Hyena.

There were like 30 Spacers on board, which was pretty bizarre considering the crew and passenger limits imposed on the player. So I pulled out my osmium dagger and went slashing.

And would you believe it? I take the ship and I STILL don’t have enough credits to register the damn thing.

Damn this new universe! I hate being Starborn

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

@darth What’s still bothering me the most is I have to pay off my damn mortgage again. Every time I reach Unity. Forever.

thephoeron, to steam
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

Y’know, it’s actually really offensive how many resources are used by the app; take a gander through Task Manager and you’ll see for yourself how many processes Steam is running

They couldn’t even be bothered to write a native app—oh no, they use a bloated web view with “GPU Acceleration” A.K.A. they’re hogging CPU, RAM, VRAM, plus GPU memory and cycles from the games their app delivers

God it’s worse than Chrome

Speaking of can anyone recommend a good mask? Preferably black and menacing, in keeping with my whole mad-scientist-supervillain running gag

My mask with carbon filters has served me well enough for the past 3 years, but the elastic bands and velcro strap are on their last legs; and since so few people are respecting my personal space in public, and pollution in Toronto is getting a lot worse, I figure I should upgrade with the new mask

(I haven’t gotten once and even though I’m fully vaccinated, I sure as hell don’t want to get it now—the new variants just keep getting worse)

thephoeron,
@thephoeron@functional.cafe avatar

@trendless Thanks for sharing! I’ll check them both out. I’ve used 3M masks in the past (during the 2008–2011 recession when there were no programming gigs, the only job I could find was as a superintendent for a housing complex, and there were a few instances where I needed the full biohazard organic-particulate filters). But I haven’t tried Sundstrom yet so I’ll check them out.
