I was unaware Daryl Hall did this kind of power pop / post-punk music. Is all of his solo stuff like this? Digging this track rn. 🎸 🤩

This is a new one. My wife had one of the new bags had the clips snap off while riding (!).

The other ones are still going after more than a decade, not sure if they've shitted up their manufacturing process like everyone else?

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@Andres4NY Did they have inserts for the clips to make them fit snug on the rack rail? Without the inserts the bags can bounce a lot, which stresses the clips. They make the clips oversized so they can fit nearly any rack and supply inserts to make them fit (close to perfect). I have some Backrollers that are nearly 25 years old and they’re still going strong. The clips on them won’t fit racks with oversized rails, but they haven’t failed after many many thousands of miles.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@Andres4NY I should've been more specific, the inserts come with the Ortlieb bags and snap into the upper hooks. They act as spacers as the hooks are intentionally oversized so they can fit on racks with oversized tubing. There are several sets of inserts in different sizes. You use the insert set that fits your rack's rail size the best. If you don't use the inserts, the hooks can rattle around, and I could see that causing stress/premature failure.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@Andres4NY Well, definitely sounds like it wasn’t anything potentially declared ”user-error”. Ortlieb, historically, has had a very good warranty, so they should make it right. Hopefully this doesn't point at an overall quality decrease.

Shout out to fall-2023 @voiceofunreason for investing in waterproof shoes, good socks and an effective rain poncho so spring-2024 @voiceofunreason can continue to go on his lunch-time mental-health walks in very wet Portland weather without increasing his misery.

WTF with this bureau, wait for the state to give you control over and then do literally nothing to make it safe for a decade. The plan can't be for bike lanes on parallel streets if they don't cross the damn freeway.

@enobacon Nothing’s shocking to me any more about their choices. Instead of taking, what is glorified free personal auto-parking, 9th Avenue, and making it a world class bike boulevard all the way from Holgate to Lombard, they decided to jam bikes onto 7th, which is a narrow high-auto traffic arterial. It makes zero sense.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@enobacon Yeah, I lived on it nor near it and or worked on/near it for many years. 9th was always safer/better and would’ve been wildly-so with some cheap treatments/modal filters.

With the 20th anniversary of upon us, I took a stroll down memory lane. I hadn’t posted many selfies over the years really, but came across one from Feb 2009 and literally LOLd, because I was presently wearing the same shirt in 2024.

Managers of the world:

If you work for a company that just laid off 10% of their workers via Zoom less than two weeks ago, please don’t send a Slack message saying “hey, got a minute to jump on a Zoom call right now?” without providing context.

Well, it took less than 20 miles of biking after the ice storm to get a flat because of the sharp gravel (basically tiny daggers) that was dispersed in an effort to make driving more possible during the ice storm. The streets are largely clear of it now but it’s hazardously piled in the painted cycling gutters and separated lanes.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@enobacon I salute you, but I’m not gonnna try that on N Greeley.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

@enobacon too late for an alternate route, already got the flat. Yes, there are multiple lanes but I’d rather not mix it up with cars going 60mph.

Today I’m wearing a t-shirt with a big middle-finger screen-printed on it, as it’s a day I may be laid off via a Zoom call and I want to be prepared.

voiceofunreason,
@voiceofunreason@xoxo.zone avatar

I didn't get laid off today, but, in reality, I feel worse than I did when I was laid in 2018 (from the same company). They laid off some of my best coworkers I've ever had/best people I've ever known. All people that were hired before the "basically free money" interest rate driven hiring frenzy of the last few years, many of them pre-dated me (I started at the company over a decade ago). Scared for what the future holds for the company I work for with these key individuals gone.
