Studio Update: A few weeks ago I was soliciting opinions about whether or not to get a Mac Mini to replace my ailing, nearly decade-old PC.
Opinions differed, leaning toward "yes but get more RAM than base model" and I had just about decided not to do it when I stumbled on a good video from a music tech vlogger I really like (video here: https://youtu.be/obkCMxaIIFM) who did exactly what I was thinking and had great results.
I didn't get to test it quite as thoroughly as I'd hoped but preliminary testing was incredibly positive. It runs #Ableton Live Suite 11 without a hitch, as well as #Pigments and the #Korg#Wavestation plugin, which is pretty much my entire computer setup.
(Note: I went #DAWlessright around the time Live 11 was released, and while my old computer's inability to run Live 11 well wasn't the reason why, it didn't exactly push me to stick with the DAW-based world.)
Tonight, I limited myself to just a synth and being able to sample and loop. I got quite far, and the simplicity of the setup has been quite enjoyable. #Musodon#MusicProduction#Synth#Sampler#Dawless
I finally got an Access Virus! It’s a synth I’ve wanted for literally over 20 years, not really made any more (got this used). It's a multi-timbral virtual analog beast. Here's first playing I did with it: three different simultaneous patches using maybe 1/20 of its power, driven by the Deluge. This synth is pretty deep, I’ve a lot to learn. https://youtu.be/9AryfRkqao4 #accessvirus#jamuary#jamuary2024#dawless
I thought that I had seen the maximum GAS via being exposed to #yarcrafts#TTRPGs and #Photography but oh my #Synth people are like the Pinnacle of GAS and #Dawless synth-heads even more so....
One week, 7 tracks! I’ve been trying “Jamuary” for real this year: track per day for a month. Trying to only spend 30 mins on the idea and 30 mins practicing / “performing” on camera. Haven’t busted that budget too badly, but oof it’s hard not getting side-tracked. The playlist thus far: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW9arycjoILjyq-uJbEUzIWd_b7Sj8hvV
Track 2 on my #DAWlessJams1 EP is a reinterpretation of Mr Oizo's Flat Beat.
It features a double cough Behringer RD-6 and TD-3 for beats'n'bleeps, Elektron Model:Samples for sampled drums and stab, Korg MS-10 on bass and Sequential Circuits Six-Trak for sound FX.
This is the closest I've done to a (crappy) music video with multicam and enhanced "found" #FlatEric footage.
It's time for the video for track 4 on my #DAWlessJams1 EP.
This one was recorded in Germany with a slightly different and more limited setup- just what I could fit into a suitcase, plus my dad's old multitrack as a mixer and a Yamaha RX11 drum machine he got second hand in '89 or so.
You know the score by now, trailer below, full vid+info at
As my studio is currently in bits and I'm on a new instance I hope I can get away with a cheeky repost of a jam I did a couple of years ago. Drums and "bass" samples are from a mate's 909 I recorded many years ago.
Also featured are Behringer TD-3 and RD-6, Korg MS-10, Sequential Sixtrak and a DIY delay unit.🔊🎶
UPDATE: We did it! Goal achieved! Feel free to keep it going!
So I'm trying to get ~ 40 streams today to continue a streak (and to continue to expose my work to new audiences of course) and to help that happen, I'm going to do a guided tour of my #discography. Hopefully, even if you're somewhat familiar with my work you'll find something new of interest and check it out!
As always, listens are my primary goal, but I also really appreciate your boosts to get this in front of more people!
In a more traditionally musical vein, my These Damn Birds! EP is a perennial favorite among a certain subset of fans. These three tracks are arguably among my most musical and easy to listen to -- a good entry point if my more esoteric work leaves you scratching your head.
Here's my first proper album-- recorded together, sharing an overarching theme and story. It's Oneirogen Codex, a concept album about the search for a mythical #occult tome...
In my opinion, this is BY FAR my most underrated release. I think it holds up will with my best work, even tho it's pretty raw in a lot of ways...a personal favorite, in any case.
This was my first #DAWless release, created on a much more rudimentary setup than what I'm using today.
My first live performance in 12 years made me re-think my studio -- here's how I'm making my studio time more performance-oriented. (This one's for the gear-heads.)
I'm a German web developer currently living the rural life in Spain making #olive oil, breeding #goats and growing vegetables.
Before that I spent 23 years in the UK, studying sound engineering, working at and then running a #CommunityRadio station and volunteering at a #CSA (community-supported agriculture) project.
I joined the Fediverse pretty much exactly a year ago at @axwax and am happy there, although its timeline doesn't fully reflect all the stuff I'm into.
