@Konghammer Becuase it's even more creepy when it's just a torso.

E30s used to be ubiquitous, but this is the first I've seen in a while. This one was done up well, and a 2-door manual like an E30 should be.

I've never seen a Mazda3 in this color. On closer inspection it was an unfortunately orange-peeled respray. Super eye-catching, assuming that eye is attached to someone who cares about Mazda3s, hahaha

Remember kids, when you post Youtube links (and others), remove the "si=" and whatever is after that equal sign. That's how they track who's sharing things to whom. (You'll also need to remove the question mark if that's the only something=something in the url.)

@mighty_orbot Sounds like we just need to post more. If the hastag is full of robots, it's not going to be useful for the AI folks.

I rushed to school for my 11am class and got here right before it started... only to realize I was an hour ahead of schedule 😅

Woke up a few times last night because our power flickered off & on. Forgot that my “smart” lights turn on when they get power-cycled. Damn bulbs turned on to default-warm-white at 100% brightness three mfin’ times last night.

Maybe I should do a little research to see if this can be avoided at all. We don’t lose power often so I haven’t put much thought into it.

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@Dylan More fuel for my zero smart devices fire. I'd have a dumb tv if I could find a 4k panel that didn't have "smart" features.

Meteor shower tonight! It's a new moon and Long Island has clear skies so I'm thinking of driving out east to stargaze at the beach. NYS is keeping some state parks open overnight for the event. I figure the opportunity is too good to pass up.

Figured since Dua Lipa had my most listened-to song of 2022, it was worth picking up a physical copy of Future Nostalgia. This is one of those albums that probably would've been more appropriate on CD than , but then I wouldn't be a cool record kid.

@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

I finally found a copy at one of the local shops. Been wanting this for long enough to justify the price of it new.

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@Dylan This certainly had amazing production. I don't know that my vinyl setup really does it justice, but I've listened to it streaming lossless through my good headphones and it's impeccable.

Info-sec people. Here is a common user dilemma: I get a junk e-mail, junk e-mail domain looks benign, as in it's probably just mass-send style junk. There's an unsubscribe link.

Do I follow the proper procedure to unsubscribe? Or is it a potential phishing threat and I just let my junk email filters handle it by flagging it as junk? My instinct is to not click unsubscribe, but then why even have a mandated procedure?

PS spammers need to be hung from a tall tree with a short rope.

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@mike I worked in anti-spam for over a decade, and I -always- tell people that if there is an unsubscribe link, click the damn unsubscribe link.

There's really two options. It's a legitimate bulk sender, in which case the unsub will (eventually) be honored, or it's a spammer. If it's a spammer, they already have your email address.

If you want to be savvy about it, check where the link points. If it's obfuscated you can use something like redirectdetective.com to see where it ends up.

Since I've been solo in the house, I've been using the built-in speakers in the Studio Display. They're not bad (actually pretty amazing for monitor speakers), but I had a hankering for the feel of being encapsulated in sound that only headphones can provide.

I can't articulate the specifics, but Apple Music just sounds -better- than Spotify, and it's that much more noticeable with my Sundaras.

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@Dylan I was under the impression that Spotify used Ogg Vorbis, not mp3.

And no, I do not have golden ears, lol. When I've done AB testing of wav vs various bitrate mp3s, the only way I could tell the wav file was that it took longer to load.

I saw this and immediately had to have it. Signed copy, white . It's every bit as good as the album cover suggests and every bit as bad.

Rear of album cover for Trey Magnifique's "Mature Situations"

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@Dylan Hahaha, well, Trey Magnafique is an alias for Brian Wecht, aka Ninja Brian from Ninja Sex Party. Everyone from TWRP was involved in this record. It -is- a good smooth jazz album, but it's also quite a bit tongue-in-cheek.

wheeljack,

@Dylan When the Sacramento Kings win, there's this Luxor-like bright purple light on top of Golden 1 Center they'll turn on. It creates a purple beam that you can see from miles around (I don't live in Sac proper and I can see it from my house). "Light the Beam" has become a slogan in support of the Kings, and there's a whole ritual around turning on the light after a winning game.

Car people: Is there a more bulletproof high horsepower engine than the Chevy LS ?🚘

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@mike @manlycoffee Not... really? 2JZ-GTEs (aka factory turbo ones) were pretty much only in the Supra, but the 2JZ-GE was used in a ton of stuff. Any '90s RWD Lexus that ended with "300" had a 2JZ in it.

There's also quite a few big power 3S-GTEs out there; that's the turbo 2.0L 4-cylinder from the MR2, Celica Alltrac/GT4, and infamous Tom's Supra.

What possible evolutionary benefit is provided by making it feel so incredibly satisfying to pick scabs?

wheeljack, to random
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

I'm really thinking about ditching Spotify for Apple Music. I had free trial of it a while back and liked Apple, but kept Spotify as I was on a multi-user plan with my ex.

Now I want to jump ship, BUT I also have the fear of losing all my liked songs. Not sure if there's an easy way to export my list out of Spotify, or see if there's any songs out of my list Apple doesn't have.

@Dylan and @Mark, I think I remember you two talking about ways to convert playlists from one service to another?

wheeljack,
@wheeljack@weird.autos avatar

@Mark @Dylan I had a six month Apple Music trial, so I have a general understanding of it's ins and outs.

The big reason I'm looking to use Apple is that out of it, Youtube Music, and Spotify, it's the only one that has a system for me to purchase and download songs. I need local files to be able to edit and use with DJ software.

If I do that, though, Spotify has to go. I'm not paying for three services and Youtube is a shared account with my 'rents.
