Eldest has moved again, into a new share house. It’s full of boxes and unpacking vibes as three people with a bit in common learn how to household with each other.

They don’t have a jug to boil water, or scissors, but they have a big avocado tree hanging over the fence in the backyard, and wineglasses.

Thinking about Doreen Massey’s beautiful definition of space as “the simultaneity of stories-so-far”.

I came home with a red lantern to hang on my deck.

RVF found a clever way to skirt Arizona regulations about having a water supply for new development. Then they discovered, to their total surprise, that even if you find a loophole in the law... humans still need water.

Like the ant and the grasshopper, they were relying on others who planned better than they did. For several years, they were parasitizing the water supply of the neighboring town of Scottsdale, until Scottsdale had enough and cut them off.

Tried out mu4e and found it more comfortable than neomutt I've been using for years. Being a Vimer, I'm starting to realize that Emacs really rocks.

@skybert @nickanderson @VikingKong I'm fairly not-fluent in vim and using Doom Emacs (evil by default) was honestly a fairly easy transition for me to make. Now I find myself doing more and more in , especially writing.

Is there a standalone piece of electronic equipment that I could buy to dip my toes in? I find myself gravitating towards the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering. It looks like it includes just about everything I could imagine to get started fooling around but maybe I'm way off base.

Decided to set up and get going with so I enabled rss from my Doom config, set up a small file with a couple RSS feeds I'm interested in, and then loaded it up. Discovered I didn't compile with libxml2 support! Easily fixed by heading over to my use file for Emacs, adding a flag to enable compiling libxml2 support, and then re-emerged the package.

Today I am finally fixing my over application of the abi_x86_32 use flag on my computer. Initially I did it lazily by adding it to global use flags to support installation of steam overlay. Today I'm fixing it by adding it to only the packages that need it according to the docs and 124 packages on my system will be built without the support I didn't need.

@MireilleRaquel there are plenty of packages available as well as LSP support. For instance coding in Rust using Emacs is a delight.

Bonus points for avoiding proprietary code and telemetry embedded in VSCode.

@MireilleRaquel I hear there's a version that's packaged that doesn't get built with the secret Microsoft code, but my understanding is it has issues with plugins not working due to incompatibility

So the bird app on my phone finally updated itself to something awful. Not sure what pushed me over the edge - was it the horrible "X" branding? Or maybe that it unilaterally decided that I wanted dark mode? Either way, it doesn't matter. Uninstalled it. This is a far nicer place to be.
