@sunshine Magit was definitely worth learning. It has made me a better git user and made git easier for me to use, especially rebasing.

Edit: sigh, typo

To people using as their main Linux desktop environment (DE) for a longer period:

I'm using xfce (after running many different WMs + DE) for over 15 years or so and I'm quite happy with it.

It seems to be the case that X.Org enters a phase out phase and multiple Wayland implementations will replace it over time.

xfce might not even be ported fully to Wayland - at least not soon:
https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/wayland_roadmap

What are you planning to do?

withoutclass,
@withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@publicvoit Darn, I was going to suggest Hyprland but then further down your list it does not meet your requirements.

louis, to linuxmint
@louis@emacs.ch avatar

Ran Linux Mint for a week, which is always my choice no. 1. However, it was painfully slow, some apps took 20 seconds to start. Video streaming was lagging and I could literally see the cursor trying to catch up with my typing. Not sure what was wrong, couldn't continue. And that with a Thinkpad X1, 4 cores and 16 GB of RAM.

Now jumped to PopOS and boy, does it make a difference. Did anyone have a similar experience?

    "It's not a mystery why folks who spend every waking hour inside a digital privilege bubble are not building with empathy or humility when nobody calls them to account. What's mysterious is that anybody pays them to do it. The Product Management (PM) and Engineering Management (EM) disciplines have utterly failed organisations building on the web, failing to put pro-user and pro-business constraints on the enthusiasms of developers."

    @tante I think it's a pretty weird take for product and engineering managers to have failed to reign in developers when it's those two orgs prioritizing the work of developers.

    I hate that I'm now a frequent user of ChatGPT. It's not that it's good, it's just that Google has become so unbelievably useless that it's near impossible to get usable results. It's like they've reverted to pure keyword based search. I just get results that (sometimes) contain my search terms, but not relevant to the context of my search.

    withoutclass,
    @withoutclass@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @malwaretech there are search products that exist that are not bad. I've been using awhile now and it's great.

    Pre-Ordered a Yahama yesterday. I've been looking for something like it since I became aware of cool instruments like the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering. Unfortunately these instruments are usually quite expensive but the Seqtrak at $399 new seems like a great deal. Especially with how powerful it seems to be.

    Barring the annoying preview image on this vid, it's pretty good at demonstrating the power of this little device.
