@skinnylatte isn’t humanism a specific philosophy tho, like a way of saying you can be ethical without religion. I always thought that was very different than saying “culture has no meaning” or value

Secular humanism always seemed the sanest form of atheism to me (beats nihilism for sure)

Today Adobe announced its annual MAX conference would take place in Florida. A US state the NAACP has declared unsafe for Black travelers. 500 employees signed an internal letter, condemning the decision. Some PR lady responded, with a blurb saying they're "(giving money to) local LGBTQIA groups" in recognition of Florida's "challenges." One of the most explicity anti-Black actions I've seen an unrepentant tech industry do, in recent years.

Fantastic -- if super-distressing -- article by Gisele Navarro about the horrible state of product reviews online

The tl;dr is that Google seems to overweight reviews from longstanding big journalism brands ...

... but many of those brands, like Popular Science, were long ago bought up by private equity or conglomerates, then hollowed out ...

... so they now produce crappy articles that are probably lying about their "test labs" to please Google

I know I always say this but it’s so cool that I can get fresh galangal, curry leaves, lime leaves, turmeric, noodles, tofu, and other things I need, in my neighborhood. Living somewhere without walking dist access to my food would be very deeply uncomfortable

I like @anildash (we've know each other for eh a lot of years) and while I too agree that the return of the weird Internet is likely (and largely a good thing)

I also really want a return to the boring Internet. An internet with reliable trusted information, searches that don't try to think for me, and sites that really are from the local businesses I'm looking for (or are actual humans with real knowledge about a topic or area talking about it)

the internet of the 1990's was this as well

How to recreate Apollo's JSON export file if you missed the deadline

This will probably be of limited usefulness, but some people were asking about the export file. All it contains is favorites, filters, and a list of all your subreddits. Once you import it into wefwef, you can then click on each sub to get a list of similar communities which you can then manually subscribe to, one-by-one....

Well, looks like Reddit pulled the plug a little early. Apollo started crashing, but I just manually revoked my token and it looks like it fixes the crashing, but no more Reddit access haha. Those folks are fun to the very end! 😛
