Silicon Valley native, tech, artist, wonk, raconteur. I'll veer from topic to topic, and change stylistically on a whim. Curious about stuff and things.

UCD alum (PoliSci/IR & Tech Policy). Strong interests in the arts, actual political science, cliodynamics, systems theory, and seeking a bit of adventure at even the smallest scale.

I own more albums than you have had changes of underpants since birth.

A clear indicator of just how far the US circus has fallen is evidenced right here; when Bill Kristol is saying this out loud, you know even traditional conservatives are terrified of madness and late stage as a combination.

zeruch,
@zeruch@mastodon.social avatar

@Uair his father was an actual public intellectual (whether one agrees with his positions, that's one thing, but at least with him was a passable attempt at rigor), but Bill always struck me as a ball-less, snivelling opportunist, riding on his surname and little else. But apparently in a Trumpian ideosphere, even he has found limits.

Before she became a late 80s/early 90s dance/pop crossover hit machine, got her first major success guesting on an acid-house chart banger with (founders of the Ninja Tune label) on "People Hold On" which has aged remarkably well. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IoWjow6xDs

@mxtthxw I don't think I ever saw the actual single stateside, unless maybe it was in one of the import bins and way out of my price range at the time. Coldcut tracks in general were Hit or Miss to find, and some of the early ninja tune stuff is just simply gone from memory. If I recall correctly Adrian did something with those guys in the '90s. Or am I imagining that?

New , started in 2020, and sat fallow since about mid 2021. The title is "election (306 232)", which if you're a good little wonk like me, will make immediate sense. If you're not I'll let you do some detective work.

Mixed media on about sheets of bristol paper, and one small canvas covered bit of board, all scanned in and assembled into whatever the hell this is.

Yes, I make art about politics; like Jasper Johns on acid. Go me.

Yes prints, (and even wearables) are available.

Sounds about right.

@trainman corrupt or not, how they got to where they are is by historically having a considerably more disciplined campaign process, and focusing often on municipal and state level positions to provide a foundation for federal elections. That in and of itself is not corrupt in terms of means, but it does seem to result in fairly corruptible ends. It's also part of the reason that the Democrats have historically not countered well, due to strategic field incoherence.

zeruch,
@zeruch@mastodon.social avatar

@cakeisnotalie @trainman my point was that Dems have historically underperformed because the GOP has since Nixon, built a leviathan of a tactically adroit campaigning playbook, and I suspect that has put pressure on the Dems to 'play to the middle' more often than not, as they've never been that consistently organized, such that middle creeps ever rightward.

There are clear differences between the two parties, and I vote based on answering "Do I want to be right, or do I want to be effective"

    @kevbob Google as a product/customer responsive company is a trash fire. It's disheartening and sad to know that the only way they're going to learn anything about how to actually develop and maintain a product is going to be when they have their own apocalyptic decline. IBM has learned from that type of event, several times. Microsoft has recovered. Apple has recovered. But a far greater majority do not, and it's unclear where Google will land on that. But they really suck currently.

    Amazon Prime joins practically every other streaming service to add ads to their cheapest subscription tier. It will cost $2.99 extra to go ad-free.

    The hang over as zero interest rates has ended has caused every streaming services to realize that running an unprofitable service to chase after Netflix is bad business. Consolidation will come next as consumers balk at increased prices and worsening product experiences.
