amberhearts,

I have found medication that works for me, and here's my interesting (and surprising) observation:

It doesn't remove ADHD, it empowers it.

This comic has been circulating for some time and it describes how I feel really well.

The author is Toivo Kaartinen, and although they don't have any personal handle online that I can refer to, they are also the author of the web comic "Foxes In Love"

@amberhearts

That's a perfect description of how Adderall works for me. My therapist shocked me when she explained that "attention deficit" doesn't necessarily mean that your attention flits around quickly; rather, it means you can't easily choose where to aim it. So when I'm two hours and 27 tabs into a rabbit hole on the Lydian Chromatic Concept rather than working on high priority day-job tasks, that's ADD. Adderall makes it far easier to move that obsessive focus to a more useful target.

@amberhearts I never bothered getting me diagnosed or anything since "uh, whatever, stuff works for me" but then I heard a friend who has recently started treatment talk about it... and I realized, life could be muuuuuch easier.

    @steeph @amberhearts If you look for ADHD specialists (filtering out any incompetent psychs) they usually van schedule a at least a short session spontaneously. No real therapy though, the wait-lists are huge, yes :/

    amberhearts,

    @ljrk Wait-lists are terribly long, but at the same time you won't get there unless you've signed yourself onto that wait-list 🙂

    Not to scare you off or anything, but it took me about two years or so to get my diagnosis after a specialist referred me onto the list. This is Sweden however, and depending on where you are in the world it might be better or worse.

    But if you can, go for it! Worst case nothing happens, but best case it helps you realize more of who you are, your needs and how to live better 🧡

    @amberhearts Yep, totally, it's not... easy. But I know some specialists now and it seems that the situation here in Germany is not quite that bad.

    osric,

    @amberhearts

    that's an amazing perspective!

    amberhearts,

    @osric Yeah, it feels backwards at first:
    "ADHD is a disability, it should be treated"

    But what if, and hear me out on this one; We realize that ADHD is actually a strength in the right circumstances, and people with it can actually do really good if those conditions are met?

    Neurodivergent people are important in society, it's just sad that society has mostly been built to reject us :ramSad:
