I gave KDE Plasma Mobile another go. It improved a LOT over the past few months. No crashes yet! It's a lot more stable now. Although not as stable as Phosh.

I like their whole "just copy Android" philosophy. Everything feels familiar and intuitive. I might keep it like this.

@fell Plasma Mobile looks really beautiful on your device :)
I also think copying Android is a good thing to make the transition easier.

Can make calls/SMS/MMS without problem?

Is internet browsing smooth?

Personally I already had PostmarketOS with Plasma Mobile on my PinePhone and the battery drained faster than with Phosh. Is this the case for you?

@Avisando SMS/MMS work flawlessly. Calls work, but are unreliable, but I haven't tried that since last year. Internet browsing is absolutely smooth, but desktop Firefox can be a little clunky to use on such a small screen.
I did not notice a difference in battery drain. Both Phosh and Plasma Mobile are very efficient on the OnePlus 6T. It lasts longer than my Pixel 4a (Android 13).

@fell Thank you for your detailed response.

If Firefox is a little difficult to use on a small screen maybe "Angelfish" would suit your needs better.

@Avisando I have very specific needs regarding extensions, so I'll stick to Firefox.

(I use uBlock + "I still don't care about cookies" + Redirector to make the web usable for me)

Nuuskis,

@fell Do you still have to manually switch audio output if you attach headphones?

fell,
@fell@ma.fellr.net avatar

@Nuuskis I'll let you know as soon as I find my headphones.

@fell What popular apps are on Discover? Can Snap and Flatpak applications be installed?

bart,
@bart@mastodon.fam-ribbers.com avatar

@penguingeek @fell Snap is not really supported outside of Ubuntu and most definitely not on Alpine Linux/postmarketOS. Flatpak works fine though, and yes there is integration into Discover.

mewo,

@fell Plasma looks genuinely nice on a phone!

what can you do with it though?

fell,
@fell@ma.fellr.net avatar

@mewo Anything, really. Browse the web, check emails, check public transport connections, send instant messages. All desktop apps work, you're only limited by the small screen and touch input.

The only things you can't do (yet) is take pictures (for lack of a camera driver) and turn-by-turn navigate (for lack of a proper app).

Actually, #Discover keeps crashing and #Tokodon keeps freezing. But the shell itself seems stable now.

@fell
Jep, Tokodon doesn't work.
Do you have working Audio on your OnePlus6?
On my Shift6mq only calls and bluetooth audio are working... Also mobile data isn't working for me.

But anyway I really like Plasma on a phone! They made a great work!

@fliegerjohn @fell What? Tokodon works just fine for me, using 24.02.1 on Alpine Linux edge (which is the exact same package as on postmarketOS edge). No freezing to be found. This report is new to me 🤔

@bart @fliegerjohn I used a Phosh image and then installed Plasma Mobile with apk add postmarketos-ui-plasma-mobile, maybe that's the problem.
