Ridwell (https://www.ridwell.com) is on the side of some boxes in my neighborhood porches. It's apparently a service which accepts hard-to-recycle items like plastic films.
But why do we have this for-profit business instead of pushing #oakland to improve it's existing recycling program? Or legislate a reduction in single-use plastics? #SFBA
@SRDas Don't know how true it is in other places, but have noticed that if the next generation isn't motivated like the generation before them, family businesses ultimately close down. Holds true in these parts.
HELP! Our dear mascot, Lucy the bear, was stolen last week in #Oakland. (Actually she was in the back of a car that was stolen, but we mostly care about recovering Lucy herself). She has been with the team for decades and we would be very grateful for any information leading to her successful return. Pictures attached.
I imagine there is an #SFBA#Oakland#MutualAid program for electronics redistribution and/or repair? A librarian friends personal laptop is a netbook that’s experiencing some intermittent hardware issues around the WiFi, and I no longer am confident / enthused in my own diagnostics and repair skills; and spoons are sparse.
Every @KidicalMass involves me waking up each morning and thinking “No one will come!!! What can I do!?!?” then trying everything I can think of to get people to join. And then it works. 😅 You should come!!! https://ebkm.org/may11
@marcprecipice@KidicalMass The best part of organizing is when you're like, "I didn't hear any interest, no one's gonna show up" and then 20 people show up to a boring-ass planning meeting and you have to ask the coffee shop if they have any bigger tables. Much bigger.
Just voted in my local community council board election for candidates who advocate for more housing and inclusion, rather than those who push to maintain the exclusive status quo. The RCPC (https://rockridge.org) is one of the oldest neighborhood orgs in the country and has more sway with local governments than most. #Rockridge#RCPC#SFBA#Oakland
I know it’s easy to be cynical about “politics” or current events, but let me tell you: if you and a few dozen people in your own town organize to make your streets safer, it can absolutely happen.
Lives will be literally saved by Traffic Violence Rapid Response advocating consistently for safety on a road that kills almost one person per month in #Oakland#SFB. #VisionZero can happen.
Black Menswear’s a movement to change the image of Black men around the world through flash mobs and networking events. (Shawn Granberry posted them on FB, so not sure if he’s the photographer.)
Look at these fantastic pics from #Oakland this weekend.
@stewf@theoaklandside Hope it is torn down and only minority owners are allowed to get property in the place of it to start undoing the damage that was done. There should be a special mortgage program put in place.
