Tim Cook is on the board of Nike.

Is it me, or is it a huge conflict of interest for corporate executives to be on the boards of other corporations? Things get especially complicated when they do cross-promotions or collaborations.

If I as a shareholder were paying an executive literally tens of millions of dollars per year, I think I’m justified to insist that they spend 100% of their professional attention on their one employer, and not on another, ostensibly unrelated corporation.

In other news: As a no-name individual contributor, I would be in breach of corporate code of conduct if I were to join the board of directors of an unrelated corporation, no matter how small. Why are executives exempt from this rule?

@drahardja I mean, we all know why. Rules for thee, not for me.

@heathborders It’s not corruption if it’s legal.

@frumble Apple and Nike has had a long collaboration, dating back to the iPod days.

Steve, however, famously wore New Balance shoes.
