JustZ,

I make logical, concise, legit legal arguments based on undisputed facts and have judges pretty regularly just be like “no; you don’t like it, take an appeal.”

I guess my message to sovereign citizens would be that if you have to explain your argument for more than like ten seconds, it’s going to be 50/50 at best.

Etterra,

I love their jargon. They think that it’s some kind of magic where if they just recite the exact right words in the specifically correct order and syntax that their insane troll logic will be forced to come true.

It’s almost always a response to bills they can’t pay too lol

BonesOfTheMoon,

Usually child support. They’re all deadbeats.

Ceedoestrees,

As much as I know they’re crazy, I agree with how they got there. It’s not like public education does a good job of educating citizens in legal and government literacy. The US government is biased, abusive, and puts corporate interests over the welfare of people which can trap folks into a kind of life they can’t possibly hope to escape from. There aren’t many options for people who want to leave society. Few places to go that aren’t owned, protected and regulated. The sovcit movement is madness, but I understand what broke these people and made them want to take control of their lives. It’s a shame people profit off providing misinformation to these folks.

BonesOfTheMoon,

Most of them are people just trying to get out of paying child support.

nightwatch_admin,

Quit putting that nonsense online, it’s not a poor, uneducated people thing. The Netherlands has had more than decent education for everyone since forever, and it still has an extremely fast growing sovcit problem since about 3 years. Reiterating the “bad US gubbernmint” claim is not helping anyone.

Ceedoestrees,

I’m sure screaming into an echo chamber is helping everyone.

BradleyUffner,

I was told there would be no math

BonesOfTheMoon,

My friend dug around and found this court case, apparently what sovcit is chuffed about is that the big bad government wanted his dog to have a rabies shot.

funkless_eck,

chuffed means happy.

corsicanguppy,

My London mate uses it for ‘bovvered’.

You're not even going to tell him which line number? You monster.

Honytawk,

At least you know the character

corsicanguppy,

I coded in C. Line numbers don’t really matter.

phoenixz,

You know? If you don’t want to pay taxes, that’s fine. You don’t get to use our cities, roads, police protection, hospitals, drinkable water, etc.

Go live in a cave in the forrest, we’ll come to clean out your bones in a few years

JoeBigelow,
@JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca avatar

But that’s not actually an option, you’re just being facetious. If I were allowed to do whatever I pleased with a few acres of decent forest, I would fuck right off from society. I have most of the skills and tools required to at least get by, and learn to thrive as I go. But that’s not an option because all the unused land is “owned” by people who will never set foot upon it. Beyond that there’s all sorts of pointless regulations tied to living “off grid”. Many municipalities don’t allow power generation with water, whether in natural flow or through impoundment.

DragonTypeWyvern,

Yeah, and you don’t even have the option to live in a cave in the wilderness, you can’t stay in one place for more than 14 days, though technically there are a lot of RV retirees that literally just drive between parks for their retirement.

Honytawk,

Those tools you got were only possible because of the society you are trying to run away from.

Same with your skills.

Go live on an island, the moment one of those tools break you will be crawling back to us.

Soggy,

Pointless regulations? I don’t want a bunch of short-sighted yahoos in the woods diverting water and over-harvesting natural resources with no oversight. That shit affects everyone downstream, literally and metaphorically.

When this sub first started picking up steam, I thought it was kind of funny to laugh at the nutty conspiracy theorists, but now I’m starting to think I’m laughing at people who are legitimately mentally ill.

BonesOfTheMoon,

As the person who posts these I would not say I find them mentally ill, just broke thieves.

phoenixz,

I’d say it’s a bit of a weird mix, really… sure, you’ll find plain abusers, but a lot of these people really have other underlying issues too

lars,

mentally ill

and super poor and the Americans have extremely limited access to mental health care and overwhelmingly robust access to social media. I imagine a couple generations from now, we on this sub will seem as empathetic as people who would bring their kids to public executions

This is the literal insanity that keeps me going

BonesOfTheMoon,

It’s such good insanity. It’s not depressing like conservatives or antivaxxers are or mentally ill people.

I like how it starts out ALMOST coherent and legalese, but then quickly derails into unhinged rambling with ACCENTUATED capital WORDS like it MATTERS.

Every time I see them make up entire sentences worth of gibberish because they think words have magic powers, I laugh.

BonesOfTheMoon,

In those groups they have all these templates of crazy listed in their files section. They send my lawyer friend into hysterics.

wjrii,

The bizarre thing to me is not so much their arguments that the US Government is illegitimate and does not have the best interests of its citizens/property/whatever at heart. The former is only really stupid to the extent you don’t compare it with every other government, and the latter is extreme and defeatist but not without a certain amount of evidence. Don’t get me wrong, it’s deeply troubling that they feel this way and it’s a mindset that’s ripe for radicalization, but it’s easy to see how they get there.

No, the real bonkers part is that they feel this way, yet they still operate as though there’s an administrative path through it all, and that the horrific deep state still feels compelled to respect certain 18th century legal niceties and exists within some legal framework, even if it’s not the one they let be public knowledge. I guess maybe it’s a way to square the circle of their deep alienation from society with their desire to still live within it. Maybe the legal system humors them to keep them from doing something really nihilistic and dangerous.

tquid,

I mean it’s not like they don’t have magic powers. It’s just that the law that society has (more or less) agreed on has WAY BETTER magic powers.

Canadian_anarchist,

This sovcit has asserted “grammatical deception” as part of their counter claim, yet they submit a crime against syntax and grammar.
