Rather than place all your energy into Reddit, a place that is slowly going down the toilet. Why not put your energy into making this place better? That's using your energy more efficiently. Make this place better, and people will move from Reddit.

Also, it seems a little rude, and awkward to use Kbin for nothing more than a place to organize protests to keep Reddit alive.

Don't forget to backup your content from reddit, delete it on reddit, and repost it on the fediverse! The high quality content (provided for free) is what made reddit so valuable, so if we take that way, it eventually will hit reddit's bottom line.

SpaceNoodle, in Reddit CEO is more unhinged than I suspected: Huffman said he saw Musk’s handling of Twitter, which he purchased last year, as an example for Reddit to follow.

Naturally, Huffman explicitly stated in an earlier interview that he did not look to other platforms for examples of how to run reddit. It's safe to assume that anything that comes out of his mouth is lie.

I believe they want us out of reddit.
And by us I mean those who use 3rd party apps, therefore don't watch ads. Us who have ublock origin on our web browser etc.

The ads are the main part, plain and simple. Any other factor is smoke and mirrors. The want to IPO, just have to follow the money.

I don't get the 'ad' justification. Because, if they wanted to make up for the lost ad revenue, they just needed to charge around 100th of what they decided. Huffman stated they're aware of AI people training with reddit data, and I think it's clear that they're pricing the API to capitalize on AI training, everyone else be damned.

That's just goofy. Imagine saying that after everything E*** M*** has done to Twitter. Shoot, even if you do want to emulate the way Twitter has ran itself into the ground, at least be smart enough not to tell users and (potential) investors about it. (Although I guess I do respect the honesty.)

Yes, let's emulate the guy whose company lost 59% of its ad revenue and is being evicted from its office buildings due to delinquent rent. Surely this will increase profitability.

"Microsoft Edge has many convenient features to improve browsing your experience" There we go. Seems like Microsoft doesn't make anything that isn't invasive any more.

rodneylives, in Does anyone feel like the Internet is alive again?

I am sure that part of it is how discoverability has diminished over time. It seems there are fewer ways to find interesting independent things on the web. But, I'm also sure that some of it is there's fewer cool things to find.

With that said, please enjoy endless.horse, which is one of those cool things the likes of which I wish finding were easier.

It feels like cheating when it includes one wired provider and a half dozen satellite and wireless providers.

richardazia, in Google Says It'll Scrape Everything You Post Online for AI

Nothing especially new. I'm surprised it has taken this long to decide to use it for AI. At the same time, I hope they have a team ready to deal with all the copyright claims. If youtube was a minefield, AI will be. They're stealing IP directly and recycling it. If Google becomes AI, then Google will make itself obsolete. We use Google to search for answers by others, not to be force-fed a single answer.
