kevin,

lol… just listening to the podcast about how BS is already shadow banning users in an effort to censor “nude” content. Their framing is so condescending.

“Oh golly. Gosh darn it. Those tiny new internet startups should’ve known better.” types of comments abound.

It was almost like the pod was pandering to an investor.

Does anyone know how many news outlets billionaire Dorsey influences via investments?

@fediversenews

bowreality,

@kevin @fediversenews Haha that’s what we call them now? “BS”?

kevin,

@bowreality @fediversenews Seemed natural for some reason 😂

bowreality,
kevin,
gullevek,

@kevin @fediversenews A bit of lulz. It’s the internet. Of course it will have porn on it. But screw BlueShit. It’s just another centra controlled Twitter clone. No need for that

kevin,

@gullevek @fediversenews 🎯🎯🎯

Frankly, I don’t mind the existence of BS - more power to them if they want to do this - but the unbelievable hype propaganda shitstorm masquerading as news (tech or otherwise) is fuggin’ level 9 ludicrous bullshyte.

Those folks writing that stuff should be ashamed of themselves.

But… I guess that’s why they named the company BS 🙃

gullevek,

@kevin @fediversenews LOL :) It is in the name :D

goodthinking,

@kevin @fediversenews My heart goes out to BS. Then my heart is like, wtf is this shit? And comes running back in, where it belongs.

kevin,

@goodthinking @fediversenews 🤣🤣🤣

But seriously … they get framed as a tiny helpless baby startup that is mysteriously being hyped… the portrait of naïveté…

The disingenuousness of this is blinding.

BS was started years ago in a huge company owned by billionaires. It’s still owned by a billionaire. Nothing naive at all.

Edit: I’m from Detroit, too ✊

goodthinking,

@kevin @fediversenews Yup. The journalists/publishers/ad-mongers/politicians tried Masto and were like… this is not my beautiful house… This is not my beautiful wife.

Nice to meet you, Michigander. :)

kevin,

@goodthinking @fediversenews 🥰🥰🥰

Talking Heads is my all time favorite band. Saw them in 79 or so at the Masonic Temple Theater. It was probably the most enjoyable show I’ve ever seen.

goodthinking,

@kevin @fediversenews I never got to see them play! Fuck. So jealous! Another close Detroit friend (who almost killed David Byrne on his bike here in NYC recently; long story) and I often reflect on Remain In Light. Is this not the most perfect album ever made? Love me some Eno production.

kevin,

@goodthinking @fediversenews I’m a huge fan of the 77 album, too but Remain In Light is probably on top for me, too🥰 I’d love to meet David Byrne but not enough to hit him with my bike 😂 That must be cool to have him wandering around.

oldmanmike,

@kevin sorry to jump in but I was working with a guy the other day who said his friend was at the recording of Stop Making Sense. Apparently they did Psycho Killer twice.

kevin,

@oldmanmike OMG 😳

oldmanmike,

@kevin yeah that’s what I said, what a moment to be alive in

goodthinking,

@kevin @fediversenews 77 is the goddamn joint. Formative, for me.

I’ve been here too long, but my bud (and I mean I went to Cass Tech with this man), was literally telling me this story about how he almost killed Byrne by accident, in Chelsea over drinks, and who should walk by with his bike and entourage but the man himself. Life’s weird.

kevin,

@goodthinking @fediversenews That’s so cool!!

Thanks for the story! Have a great one!

resipiscent,

@kevin @goodthinking @fediversenews
There was this free "live concert at Sproul Plaza at UC Berkeley back jn 1978 when Talking Heads were just getting their start. Video is handheld Sony Portapak on camera mic, no edit. The battery runs out as they begin playing Psycho Killer. The very same day in November 1978, George Moscone and Harvey Milk were murdered at City Hall" by Supervisor Dan White.

kevin,

@resipiscent @goodthinking @fediversenews This is wonderful 🥰

goodthinking,

@kevin @resipiscent @fediversenews Seconded. This is amazing, thanks!

goodthinking,

@kevin @fediversenews Before we lose the thread, have you heard the Angélique Kidjo version of Remain in Light? She covered the entire album a couple years ago, and it’s amazing to hear what an actual African (Benin, in this case) makes of it and feeds back into the material.

kevin,

@goodthinking @fediversenews No! Sounds great. (Searching Apple Music)
