The more I'm using #kbin the more I like it. There is a lot going on here (much more than pictured, but this should give a basic idea of using it for reading and subscribing to things). There is a learning curve (like the rest of the Fediverse) but it becomes easier once you get the hang of it. Descriptions of the screenshots are in the image captions. I have a separate account there as a "soft" partition and (edit- changed) an important thing to know is that upvotes translate into feed boosts.
@mildpeach it's been slow and at times out (but seems good right now). There are a lot of new signups the last few days and the kbin.social instance has had to use ddos protection (they are also getting linked to from places like Hacker News). I'm subscribed to https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta and it's a good spot to see what's going on (and what's upcoming, like maintenance).
@chillicampari I've been enjoying Kbin. My only qualm is that the search feature isn't quite there yet. I wish I could isolate a search to just one "magazine" like I can on Reddit. Or maybe I just haven't learned how to use Kbin correctly yet.
@goosifer yep, the search currently brings back all results from everywhere it finds it. That seems like it would make a good feature request for the future.
(continued) The screenshot doesn't capture the new post dialog but there are options for post type (similar to Reddit, but maybe more). There is at least one post testing magazine/community that works as a place to try things out. The one I have been using is at https://kbin.social/m/test
@chillicampari if there is anything I want to bring back into my "main" social feed- I have mutual follows between the accounts, so I can just (re)boost selected items. This reply is composed from the kbin interface.
@baronvonj I really like the UX too. I do know what you mean about multiple accounts (I have a few for different things). That's cool they are working on a mobile app!
