Today, under the light of a full moon, I present to you, a brand new Dgar song! Airlock is out now!!

I’d like to give some algorithms a good punch in the face, and shock them into noticing this, my first new release of the year. If you would be generous enough to give my new track a play (or three) on your favourite streaming service (and your second and third favourite streaming service if you’re up for it), I would very much appreciate it.
This experiment will need a lot of people, so please don’t scroll by. I really do need your help to do this. It’s a short song, a bit over two and a half minutes, and I’m really excited for you to hear it!
It’s my dream that I can spend my days making music and sharing bad jokes for all you beautiful beings. I’m working hard right now to release at least one new song per month for 2024. The goal is to supplement the income from my part-time job, at least enough that I don’t need to get a second job.
Additionally, if we can make a meaningful impact on a song release with this kind of action, I’d love if we were able to help other musicians and songwriters of Mastodon with their song launches in the future. Perhaps we can come up with a hashtag for this kind of mission? Please leave your thoughts, suggestions, and expert knowledge in the comments.

As promised, original toot is pinned, and here are some insights, stats, and relevant results.
Firstly, I am so deeply grateful for all of you who shared, boosted, listened, played, streamed, and tooted my new song over this past week. You are all awesome and amazing and I love every one of you.
As for me? Oh, the hubris. Punch the algorithms in their faces? Meaningful impact? Help others with their song launches? What fantasy! How foolish I was as to think that I could affect the algorithms in any way. The algorithms are laughing at me, assuming they even noticed anything.
It kinda feels like a setback, but I think that’s only because I set my sights too high. Progress is being made. I’ve had plenty of positive feedback about Airlock, and there’s another new song already submitted for release this month. This wasn’t a setback, but a step forward. And that’s what I’ll continue to take.

@dgar umm. You do know there's no "algorithms" here? Not in the sense of other social networks. You can't get the algorithms to pick a topic up and make it "trending". People are the algorithm and what's trending is what they share.
@dgar At scale, art doesn't pay, it costs. If you tell a large group of young people to follow their dreams, the net result will be that they will spend a huge amount of money on equipment, materials, lessons, studio time, and provide free labour including endless practice time. A tiny minority of them will be financially successful, but their profits won't match the cost of the so-called failures.
The world of streaming and digital media is worse. The algorithms are not designed to financially compensate the creators. They're for the platforms and their billionaire owners. If a tiny minority of artists find a way to get into the black, it's only allowed because it can create an illusion to accelerate the extraction of much more money for the true beneficiaries.
Does that mean we shouldn't encourage people to create, to play and to sing, if they don't get money for it? NO! Sing because you love it. The best song is sung for free.

Yeah, for some reason Tidal seems to be running late, I’ll update with a link when I see it. There shouldn’t be a problem with the YouTube one though. 🧐
Worked on Tidal, Jeez, I had to turn it way down, my hearing aids maxed out. Finally got to listen to it though, it is interesting, gave it a heart because I sort of know you.
Song should be released simultaneously worldwide, but YouTube may be restricting it based on local time, so it may become available at midnight on Friday night.
