Good grief. In the light of #LaurenceFox's comments on #GBNews, #Sky#News decided to do a piece on the #GenderPayGap. They had a man and woman on to argue about it.
It came out, live on air, that he was being paid and she wasn't. Sky apologised and offered her £75, the standard fee for such an appearance. Then they offered to increase it to £200, the same as they'd paid him.
@RPBook@MichaelPorter thank you for sharing this! seems like we should know the names Moya Lothian-McLean and Emma Dabiri! They’re both so eloquent and insightful which is such a contrast to the bumbling right wing grifter guy on the show.
LB: While I don't wish to detract from the original point which is depressing and hilarious, it's almost certainly the case that the man they asked on is someone who knows the game and knows to demand a fee because he's a hired rent-a-gob. He won't have been automatically paid because he's a dude.
However, that doesn't take away from the fact that Sky really should have been on the ball with this one. And it should be standard practice to pay the same to all contributors.
I'm suggesting he's a hired rent-a-gob, because no one serious actually believes that there's no such thing as a gender pay gap. He'll be someone who has opinions for money, which to my mind should be fucking illegal.
@RPBook I absolutely love her infectious joyous energy saying 'are you getting paid for this?', because really, that's a lethal blow, AND by its content AND by the way it is being delivered. Had she said it angrily, we would have seen an entirely different media response ("typical angry black woman with lesbian tendencies, proves our point etc... deflect & redirect).
