timsmalley,

I have some sad news to share today for anyone who visits the Ashridge Estate and knows it well.

One of the iconic trees was damaged by a winter storm and, following a safety assessment due to its proximity to a main path and subsequent attempts to save it, it has sadly had to be removed.

The tree arching over the path will no longer be in this wonderful view...

Here are a few images of the tree for the memories ❤️🌳

Full foliage now, still a much brighter green than in summer.

andymarfia,

Something I noticed today is that Mastodon strips out all exif data for my uploaded images. Does anyone know if there's a way to stop this? As a photographer I prefer that data is left in place as it contains useful information.

@supernovae: Is this a server setting or just general Mastodon wide behavior?

To match yesterday's young female, here's an immature male azure damselfly (Coenagrion puella) in the garden this evening.

The colours will become more vivid as the season moves on, especially on the thorax.

Note the U-shaped black & blue marking on the second segment of the abdomen just below the wing base, a classic azure damselfly identifier.

DeerWhispers,

Mt St Helens on May 14, 2023. The next day, a landslide took out the only road leading up to the Johnston Ridge Observatory, stranding dozens of people who had to be airlifted out and cutting off access to the area.

I think the mountain wanted to be alone.
