Following the German @ZDF and @tagesschau, the BBC is giving Mastodon a go through their own server. You can now follow the official @BBCRadio4 and a few other accounts on social.bbc!
@Mastodon@ZDF@tagesschau@BBCRadio4 why o why o why servers like this ? is there a document explaining why you designed it like this ? there seems to be many other different ways you could have avoided the confusion of 100s of different server rules. #redditkingdoms#derpdesign
@Mastodon@BBCRadio4 cool… and I just want to point out for @BBC_News_Labs that @bbcworld currently has 30k followers and that is a bot reposting from twitter.
so, would love to see an official bbc world news here
@Mastodon I know more than a few people who use(d) Twitter for news. If they bring the BBC News accounts, the Mastodon will quickly become more appealing to a lot more people. This is great news!
@Mastodon@ZDF@tagesschau@BBCRadio4 Neat! It's even more important that they're making their own servers! It's a sign that they and the wider world in general is not just looking at Mastodon as a mere alternative to Twitter. They also seem to be starting to see the importance of decentralized social media.
It will be interesting to see whether the fact I use an EU based Mastodon instance with me living in the UK affects my user experience of items they post.
(GDPR/cookies/popups ... all that irritating stuff that Mastodon seems to calm down.)
This is so good. IMO they ought to give a try to having the main news-feed X accounts they have also be present here and give us the news in the same way. I'd wager they'd quickly build quite a large following.
@NatureMC@Mastodon@ZDF@tagesschau@BBCRadio4
Well they did ask for something like a "public twitter" once so going to the Fediverse is the only logical option at this point xD
