@pluralistic@j_kloiber The people who don't want study of The Communist Manifesto probably don't want anyone studying Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations either.
They are the people doing the very things that Smith warned against, the heirs of the Tobacco Lords: concentration of wealth, excess profit-taking, monopolies and cartels, rent seeking and fake philanthropy.
Oh Adam Smith is like Jesus to them. He's just a powerful and respected name, they don't care what he actually said. Economic theory is only useful when it leads to their continually climbing profits. "We read Adam Smith and we've read between his lines", as it were. Again, same thing they do with Jesus.
