I know money can’t buy happiness or solve anxiety, but also if I had an amount of money to where I didn’t have to worry about ever going broke, I think I would be a lot less stressed and anxious.
@Ryanbigg I’m sorry you’re there as well, but glad I’m not the only one. Sometimes I feel like everyone my age is moderately to very rich and I’m just over here trying to keep things going as long as I can.
@collin I think what we see is typically others highlight reels. Nobody is sharing the rough stuff. So it’s easy to think others are 10%+ better than you. When they probably have the same or similar problems.
@Ryanbigg I think when so many people got laid off this year, a lot of us are being more honest about it.
I always feel like I should be doing better than I am, since when I work I tend to make pretty okay money. I think I really under rate how expensive it is to live in a West Coast city, and how much more expensive things have gotten in the last 10 years, even making 100k+.
@collin@Ryanbigg I’m in the same damn boat friends!!! I do not love it. Or like it. And I’m not sure there is an end in sight, or ever. But I gotta hope I can figure it out eventually.
@dcrooks@Aaronvegh exactly. I talk to my therapist about the hierarchy of needs a lot and how every time something doesn’t work out with work or whatever I feel like I slide back down and can never climb up any higher.
@collin that’s what I think when I see someone like Elon blowing so much money just… fucking about with peoples lives. If I suddenly had ~1 million quid I’d retire and you’d never hear from me again. I don’t need 44 billion.
@acf I’m thinking about how much it would cost to pay off my house and I think for between 2-3 million I could do that and then pretty much be set. I would just take it guitar lessons and go to yoga four days a week and work on my own projects for fun.
@collin THIS. I just need less money to do it, probably because I am old. I’m basically figuring out how to sustain my current, perfectly adequate monthly income for hopefully enough months between me and death without having to give up 40 hours a week to do it. Guitar and piano for me, more walking, and occasional side projects
@acf I have expensive hobbies for someone who makes as much money as I do, fancy guitars and computers, but nothing that really puts a dent in a couple million dollars.
