Current "AI" like is a mechanised version of the Infinite Monkey Theorem, that states that an infinite amount of monkeys and typewriters might ultimately produce the full work of Shakespeare. But definitely not any form of intelligence, IMHO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem

forthy,

@jwildeboer Well, we humans are the result of a very large, but still finite amount of monkeys, which evolved into humans (which are monkeys), and one of them wrote the full work of Shakespeare.

Some kind right and funny 😂
But computers / machines never feel pain or other sentiments, they never get drunken, they never feel stress like humans or monkeys.
So when they finally will feel it it's because either it's programmed (and not real) or because they get implemented cells that can recognize and transmit the feelings.

I dont say that it's required, but feelings are an important part of being human, they form us and our ideas in one or another kind.

forthy,

@davidbruchmann @jwildeboer Everything an AI does is “simulated”, and comes from human training data. That would include feelings. I can't see why an AI with good enough and the right training data can't plausible simulate all kinds of feelings.

henry,

@jwildeboer ChatGPT etc are probabilistic, which is diametrically opposite to the brute force monkeys. As for intelligence, you might be right, but soon we won’t be able to tell machine from human. At that point, does it matter?

  • henry,

@jwildeboer Apart from the “hallucinations” being transient, you are probably spot on in terms of predicting a sentiment of being ruled by AI.

@jwildeboer @henry it seems impossible to put any quality stamp on their output now, unless it’s a low quality stamp.

The problem is that this kind of texts will mix up with our knowledge and concerning some areas it will likely be really hard to know which variant is correct, or at least originates in direct human production.
When it's used to produce even the proves for wrong claims, then many things will change fundamentally probably.

another take on this AI is it is stochastic parrots. Definitely not sentient or intelligent. Also, uses incredible amounts of electricity to do what it does.
