The suffragettes burned down a pavilion. They burned down mansions. They killed people.
Unions gave and received a LOT of violence in the process of getting us the weekend and the 40-hr work week.
I want you to remember this the next time someone argues that African-Americans are "undermining their own cause" with violence and/or vandalism at BLM protests.
Should women give the right to vote back because they "undermined their own cause" with violence and vandalism?
I'm pretty sure that suffragettes killed more people and caused more property damage than BLM, even factoring in the agents provocateurs among BLM protesters.
Those who complain about BLM violence are not calling for women to give the right to vote back. Why? Because they are holding women and African-Americans to a VERY different standard.
And I think we all know why.
If you ever used the phrase "undermining their own cause" with regard to BLM, I respect you less.
If you ever used the phrase "undermining their own cause" with regard to the BLM protests, ask yourself this: what is the total damage in dollars that a protest movement can do before murder stops being a bad thing?
Don't look at me like that. We already established that you think this dollar amount exists. Now I want to know how much it is.
@tofugolem I have the impression that people who point at protesters and telling them that what ever they do undermines their cause, usually do not want to be bothered by the protest. That means: "please protest somewhere, where I can ignore you".
Therefore, I conclude protests that provoke that response are doing something right. Unfortunately, media often ignores the message and concentrate on the protest form. Thus, we need channels to communicate the message also.
