@PaulNickson I guess but how? How can you look yourself in the mirror knowing that you’re contributing to the destruction of the world? I guess you’d have to be a psychopath, which is of course a possibility here.. actually that would explain a lot.
@elduvelle We all are but the ones who are doing by far the most damage are the oil barons and general greed by the 1% with their yachts and private planes.
@PaulNickson I wouldn’t say we all are - the large majority of people have some amount of empathy for others.
But maybe psychopaths actively look for this kind of power positions from where they can more easily harm others… and maybe the current system makes it easier for them to climb the ladder.
@elduvelle Agreed. I was thinking of the greed of the 1% (oil barons and those who get lobbied by them) driving climate change without a care - maybe because they think they’ll be safe in their climate-proof bunkers (If there is such a thing) or maybe just because their greed blinds them to thinking long term.
We (the 99%) are for the most part empathic and willing to do something to alleviate the damage but it’s all not enough and pretty much too late.
@elduvelle It’s never too late of course. However it is too late for climate to at least bite us in the arse. If we stop using carbon altogether right now, the climate will continue to worsen for some time yet. But that’s not an excuse to get complacent and just give up.

@constantorbit@elduvelle Absolutely agreed. It’s like the other quote which Douglass Adams used in HHHTTG: Those who actively seek power are, by definition not fit to hold it - or something.
