The proof that a 401k or IRA doesn’t easily replace a pension for all workers is reflected in the number of seniors living in the streets today. I expect it to get worse before it gets better and worry about where I will end up.

Anyone who has traveled the back roads can tell you this is a national issue. It's only a matter of where the POS rv with the blue tarp is parked.
@Karoli I am seeing seniors who were in construction and carpentry, battering their bodies in their work years to build houses, buildings, and infrastructure just to end up in our homeless shelters. Some who were previously veterans. Just absolute madness that we don't have anything in place to avoid this happening.
@Karoli my dad is a veteran and at 82 years old still needing to work just to pay for his medications and medical bills. My mom and him do a paper route every night in the middle of the night just to stay afloat because social security isn't enough to survive on and he only served 12 years during Vietnam so he didn't qualify for retirement benefits from the military. Criminally insane that this is happening in our country.
This service sector worker has never once complained about the deductions from my little checks to enable those who worked hard before me to age with dignity & without penury.
Now I'm almost 63, & won't be able to do the physical labor I've been doing for much longer.
I have fed y'all, stocked grocery shelves, shelved library books. My work has no pension.
