When cops ask you questions, ask for a lawyer and then STFU:

  • I am not discussing how I’m doing or where I’m going.

  • Am I free to leave?

  • I am not answering any questions.

  • If they ask to search anything: "I do not consent to a search."

  • I want to speak to a lawyer.

Invoking your right to silence requires the police to stop questioning you only if you actually stop talking. Refusing to answer individual questions does not clearly invoke your Miranda rights. /1

@jeffjarvis @msnbc It's infuriating MSNBC hired someone who promotes the big lie and backs the seditious conspiracy that created it. Not to mention she supports the guy who will happily imprison journalists if he wins re-election. She should be actively shunned not appeased and coddled.

I’ve never heard anyone make a passionate case for keeping “money in politics” never heard anybody defend Citizens United. From left to right voters agree: lobbyists & big money are bad.

Problem is: “from left to right” politicians don’t want to talk about it. They don’t agree. Same for the rule to stop congress members from holding stock. They benefit too much & are too certain of their incorruptibility even as the whole institution sinks.

How do we extract ourselves from this oubliette?

@futurebird As long as SCOTUS maintains it’s majority opinion from Citizens United we’re facing an uphill battle. (They’re the ones who decided that money equals free speech and overturned the 1907 law limiting campaign contributions by corporations.)

We could however take action to increase transparency in PAC donations. Knowing who is pushing certain candidates and ballot measures is important. Removing dark money would help.

Busy trying to prevent a negative serotonin syndrome outcome while on call but yea lets keep disabling each other with a brain injuring virus so I can have even more on my plate while my colleagues are forced to medically retire.

@hannu_ikonen Our vet reduced hours weekdays, stopped boarding pets, stopped keeping sick pets overnight, and are now closed on weekends. When I take my cat in I’m often the only person wearing an N95 mask. One of the vets wears a surgical mask when he comes in the room, none of the techs or other humans bother masking at all. 😖

GOP bills in the #Oregon Legislature:
SB1536 - impose a 15 week abortion ban.
HB4037 - make gender-affirming care for youth illegal.
HB4054 - allow discrimination against trans athletes.
SB1589 - attack our vote-by-mail system and make it harder for people to vote.

Contact your state representatives and make it clear a majority of Oregonians oppose these bills.

@ahimsa_pdx Originally it was a non-partisan issue and had broad support. (We've had vote by mail for local elections since the 1980's and it expanded from there.) Unfortunately the GOP drive to restrict voting nationally has gained popularity amongst the "we want minority rule" set here too.

#VoteByMail is a gift. I was thrilled when we started it and I've been grateful every election since.

I forget exactly when I bought this HP laptop I'm currently using. It was at least 5 years ago, and I grabbed it for school. It has Windows 10 that came on it preinstalled. I used it for a bunch of school stuff over the last few years, never had any issues.

Today, I'm trying to mess around in Excel, I'm logged into my Microsoft account like usual, and it's trying to tell me I have to pay now to keep using Excel? It just gives an option to pay or shut it down. After 5+ years of using legitimate, paid-for Microsoft Office products on here. SUCH weird garbage.

Super thankful for LibreOffice and being able to reset all my defaults to that.

@jake4480 My HP laptop, about 5 years old now, recently pushed me a message that I can no longer get firmware updates. It offered to help me select a new laptop. 🤦‍♀️ I may put Linux on it and see if I can get firmware updates for a bit longer that way.

@Karoli @TonyStark @Ted_Cville Corporations also fire people before they’re eligible for a pension. Intentionally. So they don’t have “the burden”.

The proof that a 401k or IRA doesn’t easily replace a pension for all workers is reflected in the number of seniors living in the streets today. I expect it to get worse before it gets better and worry about where I will end up.
